McDonald's helps workers get food stamps.

McDonald's helps workers get food stamps

Quote:
Nancy Salgado, who has worked at a Chicago McDonald's for 10 years and makes $8.25 an hour, asked the McResource representative a number of questions related to getting assistance to pay for her heating bill, her groceries and her sister's medical expenses. Salgado told the representative that she was recording the call for her sister.

The helpline operator never asked Salgado how much she made per hour, and how many hours per week she worked beyond the fact that she was a full-time employee. But she said that Salgado "definitely should be able to qualify for both food stamps and heating assistance."

The representative then pointed her toward a number of resources in Chicago, such as food pantries and a program that would help cover some of her heating bill. She said she would email her specific phone numbers and programs.

The operator also explained that the McResource line is available to help McDonald's workers who need help navigating the process of getting public assistance. The helpline's phone number is posted in fliers at many McDonald's locations.
Nice of McDonalds to help get its employees on the gov't teet.

I said 50,000?

Stop lying. You don't have an argument.

Why should the government have to subsidize employee pay?

Why should a job, where you work 40 hours a week, not qualify you for the basic needs of survival?

How much do you pay for heat in July, sport? Do you really think cable TV is a necessity? Are you unaware that you don't have to pay $600 a month for rent? $100 a month for car insurance? Like I said, seagull poster.

Yes, if a person puts in the time and effort to work 40 hours a week at a company, the compensation should allow them to meet the minimum standard of living.

You freaking socialist want people living off the government instead of working?

Oh, so they just shouldn't have AC?

And did you notice there was no food budget on there? so take away the TV, wow, there you have 50 for food a month. You gotta have a phone these days. Where is child care? Where is gas money? On 27 a day, split that with food. lol

And 600 a month is low for rent is low.

Springfield is cheap cheap cheap and a 2 bedroom shitty apartment will cost you close to 500$.

And of course, this ignores the fact that this budget is for someone working two jobs. Want the basics for survival... prepare to work 60 hours a week. The American Dream.

In California: $8/hour, 160 hours/month would be $1280. Maximum monthly income allowed for one person to be eligible for food stamps: $1218.

Your ignoring the fact that this is a filled in budget worksheet. Not an actual baseline budget for all fast food workers.

Because its the one person households that are the majority using the social safety net.

And being able to not qualify for food stamps means everything is just perfect, right?

That was the budget worksheet provided by McDonald's to their works.

That would be fairly baseline.

And this matters why? When there is the data out there that shows the high number of people who work full time and qualify for head start, child lunch programs, food stamps, Medicaid, tax credits, welfare, ect. ect.

Right, because Mcdonald's forces employees to spend money specifically. It couldn't possibly be a sample worksheet to help people get started, or one filled out by an irresponsible person. It's not baseline. It's rather foolish.

Good, because you're argument falls apart when you consider other situations. Like the fact that it's cheaper for two people to live together than for two people to live separately, and that having kids is a choice.

So a job isn't suppose to compensate you for your time worked?

The company, earning a profit in a society that has a minimum required income for participation, shouldn't compensate their employees a pay that allows them to meet that minimum level, why? What is the point of a full time job, if not to allow you to participate in the economy?

If a company cannot make a profit off of an employee without paying a wage that requires government assistance to survive, they will not be sustainable. This socialization of losses will collapse.
