Why people laugh at Creationists

Taking a lead from Killer Clown I thought I'd create a alternative thread to post some videos I like...

[EDIT New video here]

So on with the show:

Here's the Kent Hovind Theory:

"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books.
Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders.
Do not believe in traditions simply because they have been handed down for many generations.
But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it."

First use of the word Agnosticism comes from Huxley.

Read his whole essay here:

Agnosticism and Christianity [1899]

http://aleph0.clarku.edu/huxley/CE5/Agn-X.html

Quote:
The people who call themselves "Agnostics" have been charged with doing so because they have not the courage to declare themselves "Infidels." It has been insinuated that they have adopted a new name in order to escape the unpleasantness which attaches to their proper denomination. To this wholly erroneous imputation, I have replied by showing that the term "Agnostic" did, as a matter of fact, arise in a manner which negatives it; and my statement has not been, and cannot be, refuted. Moreover, [310] speaking for myself, and without impugning the right of any other person to use the term in another sense, I further say that Agnosticism is not properly described as a "negative" creed, nor indeed as a creed of any kind, except in so far as it expresses absolute faith in the validity of a principle, which is as much ethical as intellectual. This principle may be stated in various ways, but they all amount to this: that it is wrong for a man to say that he is certain of the objective truth of any proposition unless he can produce evidence which logically justifies that certainty. This is what Agnosticism asserts; and, in my opinion, it is all that is essential to Agnosticism. That which Agnostics deny and repudiate, as immoral, is the contrary doctrine, that there are propositions which men ought to believe, without logically satisfactory evidence; and that reprobation ought to attach to the profession of disbelief in such inadequately supported propositions. The justification of the Agnostic principle lies in the success which follows upon its application, whether in the field of natural, or in that of civil, history; and in the fact that, so far as these topics are concerned, no sane man thinks of denying its validity.
Quote:
The extent of the region of the uncertain, the number of the problems the investigation of which ends in a verdict of not proven, will vary according to the knowledge and the intellectual habits of the individual Agnostic. I do not very much care to speak of anything as "unknowable."2 What I am sure about is that there are many topics about which I know nothing; and which, so far as I can see, are out of reach of my faculties. But whether these things are knowable by any one else is exactly one of those matters which is beyond my knowledge, though I may have a tolerably strong opinion as to the probabilities of the case

Secondly, I've never commanded genocide. I've never told people they should kill all the men and women in a town, but may keep the virgins for themselves.

I've never sent two bears to tear apart a group of children for calling my friend bald. I've never owned a slave or told people it was ok to do so.

I've never instructed a rapist to marry his victim. I've condemned child molestation on several occasions... something your god didn't seem to have room for in the bible. Lastly, I've never known of a priest that was sexually abusing a child, had the power to stop it, but did nothing about it.

Need I go on?

I didn't think so.
That's exactly where you are misguiding. The bible does not teach hell fire or torture, and the rest of your comments don't hold much water either. You hear what Christendom is saying about hell fire, so you believe it. Yet you never took the time to study what the bible actually says? You just lost all credibility. The bible clearly states when you are dead, you are dead, "your thoughts do perish."

This is along the same lines of believing that every time a child dies, "God" needed him in "heaven." This is nonsense. This is not what the bible teaches, and the ignorance of millions of Americans press these beliefs from generation to generation.

If you looked and understood what the bible said, and the facts that it holds, your opinion would change. But individuals have to do that, not a preacher that isn't intelligent enough to read numerous scriptures that debunk the thought of hellfire. And this isn't a personal attack on you either.

So what's all this about:

The Book of Revelation, written some time in the last half of the first century, has five verses that mention a "lake of fire":
Revelation 19:20: "And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone."

Revelation 20:10 "And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever."

Revelation 20:14-15 "Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire."[NKJV]

Revelation 21:8 "But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death."

Don't go quoting that there bible to this young feller. Like every other christian he knows the mind of an infinitely powerful god, knows all his wishes and demands.

It's odd no 2 of them ever agree to what those are.

Dude... Rep.

I'm an atheist but often tell 'christians' that hell is a creation of the CHURCH to spread FEAR. It is NOT part of Christianity.

My understanding is that when you die, you are dead. When the rapture happens the good will 'ascend' to heaven while the sinners well.. just stay dead.

Basically the bible tells you that death is the same exact same thing that Atheists think it is... except that the righteous will be saved.

Apparently the church didn't think positive reinforcement was enough, so they invented hell.

The desire to see people tortured for ETERNITY is simply a representation of evil from the people who follow christianity... not Christianity itself... and I do believe that belief in such is EVIL. It takes a sick **** to advocate eternal torture over a difference of opinion.

Of course, this is also why I like to make fun of creationists, because it's a 50 year old cult. 200 years ago nobody thought Genesis was LITERAL. That's what's funny... evolutionary theory is OLDER than young earth creationism.

Evolution is a vital, well-supported, unifying principle of the biological sciences, and the scientific evidence is overwhelmingly in favor of the idea that all living things share a common ancestry. Although there are legitimate debates about the patterns and processes of evolution, there is no serious scientific doubt that evolution occurred or that natural selection is a major mechanism in its occurrence. It is scientifically inappropriate and pedagogically irresponsible for creationist pseudoscience, including but not limited to "intelligent design," to be introduced into the science curricula of our nation's public schools.

I asked my Sunday School teacher (when I was 7-8) why there were dinosaur bones in the ground and why there is corrosion that takes 100s millions of years.

His answer: The world was created with age.

I am surprised that nobody has mentioned it.
