Have you ever changed an opinion?

In reading in this forum, have you ever changed an opinion on any topic as a result of your own conversations or by observing the ones that go on here?

I don't think there is really a right or wrong answer, but I am just curious how many people have had a change in the way they think about or view any of the topics discussed.

The poll is a simply yes or no, so feel free to elaborate on the number of times this may have happened and the subjects that it happened with if you so choose.

No body will every believe me here.

But I use to consider myself republican. I mean come on, Catholic high school, middle of MO, of course you were raised republican. I even read on of bill oreilly's books because my grandfather gave it to me.

Then as I got into high school, Bush happened. I even supported him. Didn't know jack about his tax policy or plan B expansion. Didn't really think much about the economy, because hey 90's. But, 9/11. Even still supported the early Iraq days. My college roommate my freshman year and best friend through high school served two tours. (1 of 4 brothers to serve from that family.)

Then I learned that Republican does not equal fiscal conservative nor small government, two things I still believe in (and near everyone in America believes no matter their party, despite what the GOP tries to paint Dems as.)

Ah, the good ol' days when "deficits don't matter."

I support tax and spend over cut taxes and spend.

And How anyone can call a party that wants government involved in what you put in your body, do with your body, who you marry, who you can do joint taxes and benefits with, and all other "family values" religious excuses to invade privacy, is beyond me.

Then the Recession happened. And I started to pay more attention to the economy. I admit I even dabbled a bit in the 08' PAUL! before I couldn't stand the smell of that B.S.

So here I am.

I could care less what you guys call me. Liberal, democrat, republican, whatever, just labels designed to make it easy predict and ignore large swaths of ground because "always go red, blue" Makes for lazy politicians I think. That's the largest harm.

I use conservative for most of you around here and I fully admit it is inadequate. But I guess that's the point of a label.

I'd like to change an opinion sometime just to see what it'd be like, but then I would be wrong.

I voted yes, although it's not so much 'changed' (which sounds like it reversed), but my opinion on gun control has certainly mellowed and been refined.

I'm 30 years old who worked three jobs while taking 18 credit hours my last semester of college before I graduated. I've been working for 14 years.

I continue to get a tickle out of how you pretend to be some middle of the ground guy who doesn't want people to judge him through the internet, but yet here you are.

I give you ample opportunity to articulate why you think I'm wrong, and the best you can come with is jensen.

Do you mean like the 2004 GOP when deficits didn't matter, or the 2010 GOP omg deficits matter? ect, ect.

Or do you just like parroting what you are sold completely unaware that what you believe in is a product packaged and sold for your buying dollar that changes all the time?

Reread what you posted. Party aside you are all over the place with no moral compass when it comes to the economy.

Well I was this way until this, then I was this way until this. You seem confused to me.

You mean the part where I admitted I didn't pay any attention to the economy, then started to and that reshaped my opinion? Where I examined different views then choose one?

Oh, not really directed at you, my only college economic professor was a conservative. Anybody out of MSU probable knows him. And I had him way back 03 when I still went along with the GOP because of upbringing.
