Master's degrees

Who has one (or many)?

Are you currently or recently worked in the field that pertained to your field of study?

Was it worth the time and money?

Does having a post-grad degree prevent you from working on other fields?

It was nearly 20 years ago, and I've forgotten just about everything that I studied back then. Couldn't do it, financially, either. I was a TA back then, so cost wasn't an issue. I really think if I'd ever have had a chance to finish it, it would have been 6-12 months after I left. That's what my regret really is: that I didn't go back then.

No, it's your life and I am sure that may be able to help you.

What I was getting at was I just watched a kid walk away from the one of the greatest job opportunities he is ever going to get just to go back and get his masters in economics. His reasoning was his counselor told him it would provide more opportunity. I will tell you this much, I will not send my kid to college at all unless he is focused like a laser on exactly what he is going to do with that education. I would rather buy him a business and teach him to run it.

1. I have a MFYM

2. Yes, every night.

3. Sometimes, but I often get bored

4. Not at all, I work other "fields" routinely.

This isn't about an MBA, but it's business. Is anyone here certified in six sigma or know about it? The company I work for is going to pay for mine which is really cool.
The only thing I've heard is that it is pretty valuable to have in this economy.

Thoughts?

I got a BA in communications and my Wife got her BSN in Nursing - then, about 5 years later, she went back and got her MSN. She STILL makes a boat load MORE money than I do. Good for her! Keep up the good work darlin!

Have an MBA. Worth every penny. Built a great network, got myself a much better job I wouldn't have gotten otherwise, and because I took my education seriously it really improved my critical thinking.

Like all grad schools, know what you're getting yourself into. Prep hard for entrance exams. The quality of the grad school you go to in certain fields makes an enormous difference. For an MBA, for example, do NOT go just for the degree. Make sure they have a good recruiting network.

Consequently, while I'm still teaching, I'm also attending school full time, getting my pre-reqs knocked out so I can start a program that will eventually lead to be becoming a Nuclear Pharmacist.

I still love teaching, but I hate all the other bullshit along with it. My plan is to adjunct somewhere for a course a term once as an addition to my daily job. A labor of love instead of working in a job whose purpose I feel is eroding.

Welp, I'm ruled out of an MBA because I don't have a business-related undergrad.

Really frustrating.. I applied for two jobs (copywriter for retail company and "proposal specialist" at an accounting firm) two weeks ago that I have yet to hear back from. Which means I'm not getting hired, even though these are the only two jobs I'm qualified for.
