So the RNC is visiting KC...

Welp, they picked a fine day to be compared to Denver and Dallas... Good!!!

LOL, y'all know I'm a conservative, but I sure hope the weather keeps them away... The LAST thing the hard-working people in downtown need is another daytime event that'll ****-up traffic in an area that's congested with construction gridlock...

Sorry, I'm just not over the tag-team of Standard parking ****ING OVER the parkers in the 13th-and-Grand parking garage by putting in the ****ing piece of shit Arvest bank that took away our only east-side exit onto Grand so that ****ing shitty bank's customers can have a ****ing "downtown" drive-thru banking experience (those corporate money-grubbing slut-whores!!!). Add to it that KC's finest never do a goddamn thing to help folks who actually work downtown/park in that garage by getting a cop (or nine) to direct traffic, and your even more ****ed! Oh, and not that some other ****ing corporate whore is building the new high-rise apartment building at the corner of 13th-and-Walnut and it's all the worse! And I suspect the ****ing beer trucks will STILL park on 13th street right outside of the Flying Saucer and you're quadruple ****ed!

Dear RNC, pick Denver or Dallas, they aren't as stupid as KCMO and their corporate whores prolly don't get away with this much shit!

OK....I feel better!

From what I understand there's quite the mix of parties (the city, the police, the garage and JE Dunn) that have some bit of control over the 13th street exit.
Everyone was pointing fingers at everyone else and it's only after someone started *really* pushing it with everyone we've got some kind of progress.

As far as tickets go, I agree with the beer trucks (even tough they do seem to be up on the curb and not blocking lanes) needing to be closely monitored but I'd be more interested with seeing someone up 13th to run those people off who park in front of Block in the afternoons.
Well this part is squarly on the ****-whore-corporate-sluts names Standard Parking. It has to rank near to top of all time "current customer" snubs.

As for the RNC, meh, downtown is doing just fine. The Sprint Center seems to have NO problem booking events, and until this city/downtown/city council puts in more hotel rooms IN DOWNTOWN, I think they're admitting they're not ready.

Not that I'd bank on it, I think (hope) this current construction effort will/should be the last one that ****s-over the 1201 folks. Others aren't far from KC's downtown rejuvenation, but 1201 Walnut has certainly been the building that paid the price like no other.

Have I mentioned that Standard parking and their corporate-whore-**** selves are, perhaps, the worst people on the planet? I hope they all catch AIDS and die a slow death!

Well a picture is always worth a thousand words so I thought I'd add this picture from this morning that was about a minute late in showing where the beer truck was parked, but suffice it to say he was parked about 20 yards behind where he's pictured in the shot! The funny part of all of this is that the 18 Wheeler sitting there waiting to unload (in the closed-down center lane) in the construction zone (for downtown's 4-millionth construction effort that ****s the fine folks in 1201 Walnut/the 13th/Grand parking garage parkers!!) was really really not happy with the beer truck. And the other thing you can't see in this picture is the city bus that was behind the 18-wheeler - trying to turn west onto 13th from Grand - they couldn't do anything because of the gridlock caused by the 18-wheeler and sitting in the middle lane and the beer truck parked in the left lane. LOL, it was a mess, but it actually made me laugh...

RNC, yeah, this city isn't ready to host any such conference.... Please help us by picking another city - one more ready for such a show!

I love how the garage trolls everyone with their windshield washer buckets. That shit's been dry since 2005.

When I look at the giant JE Dunn crane, I just can't get the memory of the never ending West Edge project out of my head.

Yeah, well I sure hope this is the last time the 1201 folks fall victim to another ruthless downtown renovation effort the city wants/needs, but the same city that approved all the plans will be helpless to make things work smoothly after the construction because "they don't own it".

Welp, whores will be whores, and KCMO's leadership are nothing more than whores.

If im not mistaken the west edge project was the project on the west side of the plaza where the city used tiff money and the company moving there went broke. Now theres a random law office and an out of place hotel.

I wouldn't call Polsinelli a "random law office". The hotel was always part of the plan, but the design of the building was different. It was quite the legal shit show.

And I'm not sure when you got to "downtown", but if you were here the time Colin Powell (and his group of folks) came to talk (2008 if I recall). MY GOD, that day alone proved this city was NOT ready for daytime events at the SPRINT CENTER. At the time I was coming in (from the East) 70, to 11th (W), to Grand (S), and it took some 45 minutes from the time I got off of 70 to get to the parking garage.. And in the afternoon (and this is funny), i was trying to exit out of the east side and go south on Grand, after 20 muntes of being second in line to "get out", the lady in front of me puts he car in revese and backs into me. LOL, the cop that was standing at the corner of 13th/Grand (who was doing zilth to help the gridlock (ON KC's STREETS!!), just laughed and made sure she had insurance. It was kind of funny actually, she told me she didn't see me and the cop and I just looked at each other, looked at the big red truck, and he asked her, "how'd you miss the big red truck?" Ever since then the truck's name has been "The Big Red Truck"!

Anyway, it seems like since those days

The worst day I've seen was when they had that pile of "motivational speakers" a couple years ago. 45 min to get from the broadway exit to the garage.

I'm hearing that now that they've figured out who will pay for the traffic cop, there will be someone to direct traffic every evening between 4:30 and 6:00 starting next week.

I'll believe it when I see it... Knowing it'll prolly fall on Standard Parking, and they so hate their customers that they'll take away the only east-side exit for their parking garage (those ****ing corporate soulless money-grubbing whores), I doubt they'll want to expend even a single dollar of profit to make folks lives better.

They truly embody everything that's wrong with corporate America!

But perhaps the pressure is getting to them! If so, good!

Did you hear they're closing 14th from Walnut to Main? Now the trolley car deal will add to your pain (if only for a day!). So if the ****ing new Apartment building wasn't enough, now that effort (that few will use!!) will be a moving headache.

An somewhat unfortunate one-time victory for the hard working tenants of 1201 Walnut and people who park in the parking garage at 13th & Grand, but a victory just the same... Traffic will be less unnecessarily stupid around the P&L/SPRINT Center for at least that week. Amongst the other challenges, I hope the city took some hints...

I knew KC wouldn't get it because the mayor is a black democrat.

And the congressman representing the district is a black democrat.

But mostly because we don't have enough hotel rooms... yep.
