Movies

Yeah, so I saw a lot of movies this weekend.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age - Mediocre, at best. Slow and dragged on. Shorten it to 2 hours and it's golden. It's not, so it fails.

Michael Clayton - Amazing. Everything about it is awesome. However, it's VERY complex and mind bending. You have to think, so be prepared. I still feel like I'm missing key details of exactly what happened. Gotta see it again.

Across the Universe - Perfect is one word that comes to mind. It just works. And, contrary to many people I bet, the movie is best viewed sober. Trust me.

In Bruges had the best dialog of any movie I have seen over the last 10 years (Wes Anderson movies excluded).
I watched In Bruges last night. I loved it. I thought the exact same thing about the dialogue. It's outstanding, which isn't surprising because the guy that wrote it was an accomplished playwright.

Just got back from The Hauntings in Connecticut, or some nonsense like that. It's a rental at best. It's just like all of the other recent "haunting" movies which have came out recently.

Good question. I'm not sure. I just think it's horrendous because it was utterly predictable and borderline stupid (plot wise). The only reason anyone gave this film the light of day is because they got Smith to star.

I saw State of Play today. Really liked it.

Watched "The Wackness" last night. Really good movie, and great soundtrack.

The Wackness

It's the summer of 1994, and the streets of New York are pulsing with hip-hop. Set against this backdrop, a lonely teenager named Luke Shapiro spends his last summer before university selling marijuana throughout New York City, trading it with his unorthodox psychotherapist for treatment, while having a crush on his stepdaughter.

Predictable is not bad if it is sufficiently developed. I don't think you always have to throw the audience a changeup. It was lacking in development, and would probably have worked better in book format where it could be fleshed out and still retain the longer segments of character development.

I watched Dark Days with one of my friends this afternoon on Netflix Instant. Interesting little doc.

BTW - I figured out what's wrong with Jennifer Connelly - checked out the IMDB site to see if she was anorexic or dying of something - she's a ****ing vegan.

Somebody needs to kidnap her and force feed her twinkies and cheese until her tits grow back.

I want to see Changeling. Looks decent.

I'd say YES, MAN! is a rental if you have a Redbox. But I certainly wouldn't rent it at Blockbuster. It's a $1 rental, at most. Or catch it on HBO sometime.

I liked Dark Days too. Union Square (documentary) about heroin addicts on the street in NYC was pretty good too.

For those who missed it in theaters (which includes me), go rent Let the Right One In. Don't wait for the sure to be mediocre American remake.
