LOOKS LIKE IRAN IS CHOOSING TO TIANANMEN OPTION

Watching a lot of videos of Basijis opening fire and rounding people up in the cover of darkness.

Got a bad feeling a lot of Iranians are going to disappear tonight...

Dictatorships usually only succeed when the military decides to switch sides or at least become a passive bystander to the will of the people. Unfortunately, I'm not sure there's any evidence that such a scenario will appear in Iran. Eventually, no matter how much a populace hates to be enslaved, they will usually choose that after a few days of seeing friends and family dying and disappearing.

This could end up being a real pivot point for history -- if the protesters are somehow able to overcome the long odds it will completely re-write the middle east, at least in the short-term. Peace between Israel and the Palestinians will be more likely, the further marginalizing of Syria would occur, and the inevitable Israeli strike on the Iranian nuclear program would probably become less inevitable.

What I always find funny about the 2000 election results is when the media did their detailed analysis they discovered that Bush won under the standards that Gore wanted and Gore won under the standards Bush wanted.

I also think there's no question that Gore wins if Democrats don't create a bizarre ballot that causes Democrats to vote for the wrong candidate.

So you're saying a conservative court would have overturned Roe v Wade? That's your barometer?

Not sure you'll buy these as accurate but: http://scotusscores.com/

FTR, I'm not agreeing with her point about the SC having a conflict of interest, but i don't see how RvW is a barometer of whether a court is liberal or conservative.

Actually the ruling from the Supreme Court was 7-2 that the Florida recount was unconstitutional so it's kind of a stretch to say it was some sort of plot by the RWNJs...

[Cue video of RWNJs protesting in Dade County...LOL]

Thanks Frankie, I can't watch the video. The stills are bad enough.

Necessary evil, IMO. At least the Iranian people are refusing to be oppressed any longer. The bastards that have controlled the country need to be removed. Unfortunately, it's not going t o be without lots of pain and bloodshed. Unlike the revolution that put them in place.

What is hard is for those here who are helpless to do anything and don't really have any idea what is going on.

What turns a simple uprising into a full fledged revolution is when the regime attempts to cool them with ruthlessness. I wish it weren't so, but it's a fact. I couldn't sleep last night thinking about Saturday and how "some beautiful young souls will be taken from their bodies tomorrow."

It's just heart wrenching. I know we are seeing only a fraction of what is going on.

Having religious leaders running the country seems like a bad idea. Any chance these guys get tossed?
