Playing the 1st one and wow it looks really good. never played the game for ps2, the only knock i have is the cut scenes are ps2 quality, but i can live with it. Spoiled by hd gaming for sure. Also i had no idea kratos consistently gets 2 women in his bed. definetly not a game for the kids

Apparently my bro in law knows people who sell brand new games. I am going to see if he can get me Batman and UC2 on the PS3. He told me half price, but i wanna see. Now, i just need money for games. lol

Unless you want backwards compatibility to play PS2 games on it, or you're going to instal Linux on it and use it like a computer, get the new one. $299 with a 120G HDD. it uses 1/3 less electricity of the "phat" and is 1/3 smaller, too. I'd wait a week until Black Friday because there are bound to be some free game deals or other added value promotions with various retailers.

so is that the only difference, is that is its smaller and uses less energy

From the last versions of the shiny one, yes. It plays all the same functionality, has the same number of inputs/outputs, but it does have a bigger HDD (120 vs. 80) for less money (tho the Uncharted Bundle had a 160G HDD).

Just go to ps3.com to view it and get some functionality features.

I'm probably getting my son a PS3 for Xmas........I may go with the older one off ebay. For the 299, He'll have backwards compatibility and more inputs, I think (4 vs 2)......is it worth it to go with the "fat" one or just get the slim and have him keep his PS2 hooked up so he can play Rock Band, Guitar Hero, etc. I don't really want to plop down all sorts of money to re-buy games he already has...

God of War collection is solid - I had never played the original 2 so i'm going to play through them before the 3rd one comes out. The GoW3 demo was very short but very cool.
