Crazy as it may seem, Robert Ayers' best performance to date in the NFL came in a game when the second-year outside linebacker didn't record a single sack and had only one quarterback pressure.

Instead, it was Ayers' run defense — including two tackles for a loss — in Sunday's 26-20 victory against Tennessee that had coach Josh McDaniels gushing Monday morning. Ayers has 17 total tackles — including four for a loss — and 1 1/2 sacks this season.

"I don't think it's statistics for us when we looked at his performance, it was that he did his job on basically every play," McDaniels said. "He really kind of dominated the edge when they tried to run the ball toward him, and he didn't run past the quarterback. I think his discipline, to me, was the big thing. If we were charting discipline, he was probably close to 100 percent."
