I'm sure that all you insular white guys in the backwoods of Missouri, Kansas and Illinois are absolutely correct: There are maybe one or two guys each year that graduate high school that run 4.5 forty yard dashes and that all the guys that subsequently sign with Texas, Ohio State, USC, Oregon, Alabama, Florida, LSU and Alabama barely break 5.0's, regardless of their positions.

i grew up in wyandotte county.

no one is saying that it doesnt happen, just that the % of people here that say their times are that good just doesnt seem correct.

Because Hootie, from Illinois, has stated that running a 4.5 is impossible, as have other people in isolated areas.

Seriously, Jason: Maybe you don't follow high school football across the nation or watch the national signing day, etc. But for you or anyone else to patently claim that hundreds, if not thousands, of kids run TRUE 4.5 forties across the nation is ABSURD.

I don't recall anyone in this thread claiming that they benched "400 and ran a 4.4" has Hootie so blatantly exaggerated (as usual). He's so full of shit that it's no longer funny, it's pathetic.

And quite honestly, I have a new found respect for Doomy & Beach Tribe (two of my, for lack of a better term, adversaries in this forum) because they've obviously competed and their statements come from experience, not through a drunken, myopic, insular haze.

Regardless of all the blather, there are guys that are freaks of nature out there that can run blazzingly fast and lift an ungodly amount of free weights at an early age. But that alone does not make one a gifted athlete capable of playing at a high level beyond high school.

I still stand behind the times that were recorded at the camp that I attended, and still believe that there are many 4.5 runners out there, but it seems that these guys also have a reason for their believing that times can often be skewed.

FTR i never thought you were lying. my only bone of contention was the fact that there are SO many that say they hit that.

IIRC your post said about 10% of the guys at that football camp could after training for it.

i can actually believe that but to hear that there are THOUSANDS (thanks dane) in the us every year that can just sounds lke some kids and coaches that inflated theit numbers for what ever reason

To be fair as well, thousands is not that large of a number when you consider the sheer amount of kids who are running 40s every spring, and fall. The articles I posted also refer to the statement that I was trying to make that out outlines the point that a fast, or.....not so fast 40 time, hardly translates to an athlete being a good football player or not, as our titan friend was also getting at.

i get the point that a fast guy doesnt necessarily SP? have to be a good football player. and i agree.

BUT when we have people here claiming to run SUB 4.5 thats where i have an issue with how they were timed.

We had 110 kids on our freshmen team. We had to split it into A and B squads. Then we had a Soph, JV and Varsity team as well.

The sheer number of kids that play football alone in HS is staggering, let alone track athletes, soccer players, etc...

And for a lot of people, the fastest you'll ever be is at 18 years old.

It's odd to me that there is such a backlash against the idea that there are a lot of very fast people out there when you consider the raw numbers involved.

There are plenty of superior athletes that do not get offers to play college football. There was a kid at my school who ran a 4.59 and could lift the gym. My high school coach gave him the starting HB position without even seeing him play. After two games into the season after 5 fumbles and never breaking any shoestring tackles, he never played another down. An amazing athlete with no football skill will not be just "given" a scholarship to play football. That is just stupid. Larry Johnson was not just strong and fast, he had football awareness. Yes he sucked at the end of his career, but he was not just some track athlete with muscles, he was a football player.
