Economics Conservatives: What's not to like about Jon Huntsman? - Page 3

This guy has a good track record as governor, has actual foreign policy experience, is incredibly likeable and pragmatic with bipartisan credentials, and is totally composed on the stage.

What's not to like? I am obviously not the GOP's demographic here, but I think he is far and away the strongest candidate on that stage.

Yet he's polling in the single digits.

(This is a thread primarily for conservatives and those who usually vote GOP. I think my fellow liberals will have a harder time pegging why conservatives refuse to flock to him.)

As a moderate conservative, I'd absolutely vote for Huntsman.

Problem is, conservatives are more concerned about abortion and gays and anti-evolution than they are about what's right for the country.

Please bring my party back from these assholes.

I would consider him as well. It is surprising to me he hasn't gotten much more traction. He would give a lot of Dems/Moderates an option that is far from an option with the rest of the buffoons (Paul excluded).

This is so right. Spending, debt and entitlements are non-existent when it comes to what conservatives are screaming about. It's all gays, abortion and evolution.

I'm a moderate Republican and I've been supporting Huntsman this whole time. I doubt he'll last past NH, which is a real shame. He's our best candidate by far, IMO.

He's entirely uninspiring, boring and completely unable to attract followers. Big problem trying to be a leader nobody wants to follow.

-Folksy and/or southern accent
-A history of outspokenness
-An average of 3.2 buzzwords or cliches per sentence

We're 44 posts deep into this thread, by the way, and there has been ZERO SUBSTANTIAL REASON for the GOP to back off Huntsman, other than:

(1) He's not a rock star. (He should be. He's a good looking guy who speaks very well and is always in control of the conversation.)

(2) The GOP's batshit insane right now and isn't interested in a smart moderate.
