Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

Both are very capable rounds, it really comes down to a question of personal preference. I suggest you develop a ball park idea of what kind of pistol you want (Glock, 1911, etc.) Then find a good range that has rentals, buy a box of .40 and .45 and run some rounds through both the .40 and .45 versions of whatever model, or as close as they have available, you are looking at.

I've always felt the recoil on a .40 is a little harsher than a .45, but I've not shot a lot of .45s.

I agree. The first time I shot a .45 it was in a 1911 platform and I shot it so much better than polymer frame 9mm. The 9mm and even .40 see,Ed to be like a loud violent firecracker and the .45 seemed to be a loud bang with controllable recoil.

I'm eyeing a 1911 style platform for my next pistol.

For something local, Cabela's has the best selection by far, and they've always got some good ammo for sale.

But the last couple times I've gotten ammo in bulk, I've ordered it off the internet. I'd take a look at....

I've ordered from them before - decent prices. Can't really order online anymore, though, since the wife is working now and someone has to be at home to sign for it (may be an Illinois thing).

Obviously can't have ammo shipped to the office (Chicago thing + get fired thing).

I am so glad I no longer live there. Somewhere I still have my firearm owner card I had to get as a kid so I could buy shotgun shells and 22 rounds,

You take the good with the bad, I guess. I'm in Naperville, so there aren't any restrictions on ownership. There are several decent gun shops/pistol ranges in the area. I just wish the nearest rifle range wasn't all the way down by Ottawa.

One of my best friends visited from New York last month - took him to the range and got him hooked on shooting. The restrictions they place on people in New York (City - I assume it's saner upstate) are absolutely Draconian. $400 for a handgun license, takes 6-9 months to be approved, and then you have to renew it every three years for another $400. And that's separate from a rifle license, which isn't quite as expensive, but it's basically illegal to own anything that could even be remotely construed as an assault rifle. I can't even imagine how that's legal.

Washington has agreed to allow the importation of M1 Garand rifles from Seoul, reversing its earlier decision to ban the shipping of the weapon used by South Korean and U.S. soldiers during the 1950-53 Korean War, a senior defense official said Wednesday.

“The U.S. government approved the imports of some 86,000 of the rifles,” said Lee Sun-chul, deputy defense minister for force and resources management.

They currently sell for around $220, according to another defense ministry official.

Red tape I think. 86,000 Garand's will not be sold to just Korean war vets. Few 1000 maybe.
Estimated quarter of million Garands sit over there. So ya a 250 to 350 dollar price tag would be awesome.

I think I need to turn my best friend on to this. His dad was a Korean War vet - just passed away last year unfortunately. But he should be able to qualify for this right now.
