AMC announced today that David Morrissey has been cast in the role of The Governor in the network's critically acclaimed hit series The Walking Dead. The Governor, a character from Robert Kirkman's graphic novel, is the leader of Woodbury, a small settlement of survivors, and becomes the chief antagonist for Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his group.

The Governor will appear in The Walking Dead Season 3, a 16-episode order from AMC, which begins production this spring in Atlanta.

A BAFTA Award nominee, Morrissey has appeared in many acclaimed British series including State of Play, Meadowlands, The Deal and Blackpool. Along with his celebrated work in television, Morrissey is also known for his leading roles in feature films such as The Reaping, The Other Boleyn Girl, Centurion, The Water Horse, Nowhere Boy and Blitz. He recently wrapped Welcome to the Punch opposite James McAvoy and Mark Strong. Morrissey is represented by The Collective and Troika in the UK.

The Walking Dead Season 2 airs Sundays at 9pm on AMC.

I'm not too sure about that. I was also a bit perplexed at them cutting themselves with the same knives they use to kill the zombies. I know Shane didn't disinfect that blade before he cut himself on the bus. Of course it was a life or death situation so I can understand risking it, but I just felt like he should have jetted for the back door and tried to escape that way.

Also, when they killed the first two walkers (the cops) and Shane mentioned not seeing any bites, I'm thinking that will play a role sometime soon. When Rick took off (right before he went back to rescue Shane) he stopped and looked at the two bodies inquisitively, kind of like he had just figured something out. Did anybody else catch that?

I'm not sure that the infection is lethal to a living person. They just reanimate after their death. I do think a bite from the mouth of a rancid zombie would be lethal though. That's, you know, very unclean. Blood poisoning and such.

I think they're all infected, I just don't think the zombie virus itself kills anyone.

If you've read the comic, then that is the case. Everyone is infected. Im thinking thats what the doctor at the end of season 1 told rick!

I'm pretty sure the virus itself is lethal. That's pretty much the whole point. If people that got bit didn't die from the virus, there wouldn't be any sense of urgency. They could just let them stay with the group and die of old age or natural causes.

I'm trying to think of people from the show that got bit but I'm having trouble. The only one that comes to mind is the guy that went crazy shoveling graves back in ATL. After the walkers attacked the camp, he had gotten bit on the stomach. The black chick noticed he was looking sickly and pale and questioned him about it. The bite itself wasn't even that major (he was able to hide it from the others) but his health deteriorated pretty rapidly. Plus the characters in the show seem to have a wealth of cuts and scrapes that never seem to get infected. It has to be the virus.
