Another Obama lie with his fake "180 degree flip flop" on Keystone

Not a drop of oil will flow because it will not be approved. But yet he hopes the uneducated masses buy into this Cushing OK PR stunt on the Keystone pipeline. Why is he doing this? The price of gas AND more importantly a poll that came out that said 78% of Americans want Keystone. Interesting this event was closed to the public. I wonder why

You Canít Fast Track Keystone XL by Denying Its Application
Nicolas LorisMarch 21, 2012 at 5:00 pm(7) Heritage Foundation

Several news outlets are reporting that President Obama will call for expediting the permitting process for southern part of the Keystone XL pipeline when he visits Cushing, Oklahoma, this week. Expediting the permitting process for a part of the pipeline is great, and the quicker we can move forward with Keystone the better, but can it really be considered expediting if the project should have already been approved?

The answer is no. President Obama rejected the original permit application for Keystone XL submitted by TransCanada. The entire pipeline project spans 1,700 miles and would bring up to 830,000 barrels of oil per day from Alberta, Canada, to the U.S. The southern part of the pipeline, now called the Gulf Coast Project, does not require a presidential permit because it does not cross international borders. It only requires a permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and nothing has changed with regards to this part of the project. Itís the same route TransCanada submitted to the State Department in 2008.

In other words, the Presidentís decision to reject the permit application has already unnecessarily slowed the process. It was the environmental activistsí relentless opposition to Keystone that persuaded President Obama to deny the permit application. In doing so, he blamed others for forcing him to take a decision, saying, ďThis announcement is not a judgment on the merits of the pipeline, but the arbitrary nature of a deadline that prevented the State Department from gathering the information necessary to approve the project and protect the American people.Ē

But the review by the State Department was thorough and complete. It studied and addressed risk to soil, wetlands, water resources, vegetation, fish, wildlife, and endangered species. Keystone XL also met 57 specific pipeline safety standard requirements..

Some of the concern of environmentalists and Nebraska residents has focused on the original route of the pipeline, particularly the area where the pipeline would cross the Ogallala Aquifer and the stateís Sand Hills region. Nebraska already has miles of natural gas, crude, refined products, and petrochemical pipelines crossing the stateís purportedly sensitive Ogallala Aquifer, including pipelines in the Sand Hills region.

Even so, if President Obama were sincere in his support of the pipeline, he could have approved the permit and allowed TransCanada and Nebraskaís Department of Environmental Quality to work on a reroute to satisfy landowners and state officials in Nebraska.

Furthermore, if President Obama were sincerely supportive of the pipeline, he would not have personally lobbied Senate Democrats to vote against an amendment that would have authorized construction of the entire pipeline.
Expediting the southern portion of Keystone XL is good because it will create jobs immediately and move oil from Cushing to the Gulf Coast as soon as 2013.

But because of President Obamaís decision to reject Keystoneís permit application last year, weíre already behind. The Presidentís attempt to satisfy those upset about high gas prices while catering to his special interest groups isnít going to cut it.

Keystone is a Red Herring.

It doesn't really matter because all the oil from it is going to China—not America per the company Trans Canada. That and "refineries on the Gulf Coast have long-term commitments to buy oil from current suppliers—including Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, and Mexico. Those nations don't want to cede market share to Canada."..."Canadian Natural Resources Minister, Joe Oliver, has stated publicly that it’s a national priority to find markets for Canadian oil other than the United States."

Again, as I've said before this is being fought by some Tea Party activists because it relies on abusive eminent domain. That is eminent domain for private gain. Conservatives ought to be concerned about this as property rights advocates. Since the oil is not going to be sold in America, but expands oil markets for a Canadian firm outside America, this is how the GOP scams it's own followers with their govt/private partnerships of crony mercantilism.

Also, prices are up much more due to the weak dollar since the warm winter led to lower demand and higher supplies. There's an oversupply of oil in the Midwest hub of Cushing, Oklahoma where the only buyer is the United States. If you want lower oil prices then handle the Federal Reserve. I might add, if you want to handle Obama, or any other politicians overspending....they'd be handled by handling the Federal Reserve.

This is good news...good to see Obama's coming around. Now if he'd just approve the other 1200 miles of the pipeline we'd be all set. Or maybe his idea for jobs is to set up a bucket passing line from the Canadian Border to Oklahoma...that might mean a few thousand jobs.

Why is this good news to anyone on the right when it will rely on eminent domain abuse, which is property rights abuse and when none of the oil will be sold in America because this is about opening other global markets for a Canadian firm?

I hadnt heard that the line was abusing eminent domain...do you have any links on that? Eminent domain only applies to government. Why would Obama approve something like that?

I thought I put one up earlier in the thread about Tea Partiers protesting this on abusive eminent domain grounds. You can google this too btw. Something will come up on it. That's all I am doing to get you a link. So this isn't the original one I read.

Another strange bedfellows coalition:

Environmentalists and Tea Party activists with an intense dislike for abuse of eminent domain by corporate interests have joined hands to oppose the Keystone pipeline that is intended to bear problematic tar sands from Canada to Gulf-area refineries.

TransCanada, you'll read, isn't too impressed by landowners' desire to be left alone. Irony: U.S. Rep. Tim Griffin doesn't like mandates that insure all Americans get health insurance. Mandates that make sure a Canada company can risk pollution to get its product to the world from gulf ports and bully American landowners to get out of the way? He's down with that.

PLEASE NOTE: The push for eminent domain is because TransCanada is pushing ahead with pipeline construction on the route in the lower U.S., where State Department approval isn't needed. So could somebody please tell U.S. Rep. Tim Griffin to stop talking about the 60 part-time jobs in Little Rock that weren't ever really permanently lost anyway. They'll have pipe to ship.

Interesting...I hadnt heard this before. I did some googling and found a couple of articles. The ones I read were about the fact they were concerned about the safety of the pipeline as opposed to the 'land grab'. I guess if the local land owners agreed and now have second thoughts about safety, that's one thing, but I cannot find a link where a land owner was forced to give his private land over to the pipeline. I find that two different things.
