With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:



Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

Perez coming back is the spark that could ignite this team. I pitched my entire life and through college, and the guy that was always the key to running the team, the qb if you will, was our catcher. Perez will have every runner on base on their toes, and that will help the pitchers immensly. I cant wait to see him gunning guys down!!

In KC, Cain hasn't shown much of anything. Thus, while I'm ready to replace Dyson's near-worthless ass, I'm truly excited about Myers arriving in a month or so.

This is all true, but I was excited to see Cain at the beginning of the season and that just got put on hold until now.

I'm not sure if you're giving up on Cain, but I think it's a bit too early to do so (if that's indeed where you're headed). It's not like many guys were showing much early in the season when he got hurt.

Agreed with the rest, except I'm skeptical about Myers forcing Dayton's hand with Frenchy manning RF...

I was referring to his play in the field.

He was injured less than a week into the season.

A little early to judge his play at the plate.

Not giving up on Cain in the least, but he sure as hell shouldn't block Myers, whom we should see in CF at the end of this month (predicated on the thought that Frenchy is unmovable in Dayton's eyes).

OK, did some reading on him, and some scouts compare him to Bubba Starling.

Therefore, the Royals would do well to acquire this guy. Not sure of the cost, but let's say is comparable to the Starling signing bonus, which was around 7. Next step? Work like hell to trade one plus other prospects for a legit. ML starter. Not an old, over-taxed, broke dick. A legit, in-his-prime starter. A #2 would be fine. Paying 7 for the ability to make this trade happen with no remorse is cheap money.
