Many educational-based institutions don't show Hollywood films. Goes against their mission statement, and once you're in bed with Hollywood it's hard to get out.

I could swear I saw The Phantom Menace at the Zoo. Guess they've changed that policy (there weren't many people there, so maybe it wasn't worth it to them).

Yea, a lot of the old original IMAX screens like the Zoo are the real size IMAX screen. Before IMAX sold out to Hollywood and went LieMax.

Finally saw all of it. Agree with everyone's take (visually stunning, thought provoking, plot holes, great experience but not a great film). I'll add that I would happily burst my alien in Noomi Rapace and Charlize Theron.

How about Vickers agreeing to hook up with the captain…….and not one single shot of the hook up? WTF! I wanted to see some Charlize nudity. I think this movie will be much much much better as a directors cut. The prison planet alien movie theatrical version was a total piece of crap ….the directors cut filled in many holes. I think this may be in the same mold. Another thought….am I the only one who thinks Scott made a multi-million dollar mistake by not shouting from the hilltops…..THIS MOVIE HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE ALIEN SERIES! He didn’t. I have no doubt that many casual fans of Alien would have went to see this had they known. I mean I knew from the very first trailer….cause I’m an Alien FREAK. But if you are just casual, you haven‘t seen the original movies in a while, you wouldn’t know. I was prepared to battle the masses on opening day. Went to a 6:00 show. The theater was half empty. I do want to see this again. I was somewhat disappointed.....but it still was pretty damn cool!

So now that I've seen it, I'm a bit confused about the whole "the Engineers were planning to eradicate earthlings". There had been some references to the Engineer they woke up being angry, with some contention that it had to do with David and humans creating life as the Engineers had, etc.,. But the plot clearly indicates that the Engineers had planned 2000 years ago to go back and eradicate humanity, and that--in a strange way--earthlings actually have that particular alien free-for-all to thank (because if the resident aliens hadn't gotten loose and laid waste to the Engineers, they would've taken off for Earth as the lone awoken Engineer tried). So why would the Engineers have planned, at the birth of Christ, to go back and wipe us all out? It would've made more sense if, as the trailer erroneously hinted, that the Engineer they woke up did indeed find David an aberration and plan by his lonesome to go wipe out Earth.

I haven't read any of the replies in this thread yet, so i'm posting this without seeing others opinions.
THIS MOVIE WAS ****ING TERRIBLE. I don't understand how it got a 74% on RT. The acting was terrible. The plot really didn't attempt to make sense. The one-liners were just bad. I don't get it.
