We have all heard about what happened in Aurora, Co, and I think that Gun Control is going to be a huge topic in the following months.


What measures need to be taken? Do you have any ideas that will help prevent this kind of thing from happening again as it pertains to guns?

This Aurora shooting was clearly done by pawn being blackmailed by Eric Holder and Obama in order to enact stirct laws to restrict the 2nd Amendment. The pawn will likely be Jack Ruby'd in the next few days.

That is a .45 caliber handgun correct? I specifically was talking about the high powered guns like the AK-47 type guns or a sniper rifle. I get you wanting a handgun. But IMO I think smaller firearms are sufficient and regular citizens don't need assault rifles and other high powered weapons. I would say I don't mind it being in their house, but obviously people could buy them and take them whereever they want.

Regular citizens do need assault rifles and other high powered weapons. I'm a regular citizen. I need them. I want them. I will have them.

Let me toss this out there, and I know I am touching on two very emotional topics.

Gun ownership is protected under the 2nd Amendment of the US Constitution; "...the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.".

Abortion is also legal and considered constitutional based on the Supreme Court's decision on Roe vs. Wade under the 14th Amendment (privacy under due process) of the US Constitution.

However, the one right that is explicitly listed (gun ownership) has multiple federal, state, county and municipal laws governing who and what a citizen can own. The moment a government proposes, not passes just proposes, the one right that was interpreted by the court (abortion) people come out of the woodwork screaming that you cannot infringe on that particular right.

So my question; why is the explicitly listed right allowed to be governed by so many laws and the interpreted right given a pass?

is that true? every time I've been vedors are on the phone checking the person out. I mean, I'm sure there could be someone who's figured out a way around it; but I don't think as a general rule a felon could just walk up and buy a handgun.

But, I don't know for sure.

True to a point; however, keep in mind a large large majority of 'assault rifles' are chambered in the same round as most popular/common hunting rifles. the only difference is, the 'assault riflle' it's a semi auto . there are also semi-auto hunting rifles, and they don't look like an 'assault rifle etc.

Do you shoot them at your house or display them or let it be known by others you have? I am not being incendiary, just asking because I am not sure exactly what the average person does with them.

I did. It was left to me by my grandfather.
I was very well aware of the dangers of improperly used weapons and had hunter education by that time.


"Semi Automatic" sounds sooo scary when you use it that way....like Mufassa! It just gives me the chills.

Which type of semi automatic weapons do you think only your Palestinian freedom fighters should have that Iowans shouldn't?

I know a lot of people who have multiple semiautomatic weapons...hand guns, shot guns, and even those scary black rifles. You'll be shocked to learn that NONE of those weapons have harmed another human.

An AK-47 shoots a 7.62X39 round that has ballistics similar to a 30/30 Winchester, similar bullet size, weight and velocity, and is a round used for sporting and hunting all the time.

But, I don't know for sure.

If you have a Federal Firearms License you have to follow all procedures as normal. Which would be any regular firearms dealer. However, if you are not in the business of selling firearms, you do not need a FFL and are not required to perfrom background checks.

Yes, with armor piercing bullets.

If the 12 year old can afford a grenade launcher, they can own one.

Convicts, depends on what they're convicted for. You do give up constitutional rights when you choose to become a criminal.

Citizens on domestic terrorist watch lists don't lose their constitutional rights.

Basically, every citizen has a right to own guns typical of the militia of the day.

The part you left out before the "..." is kind of important.

No matter what side of this someone is on, no one can tell me that the 2nd Am is obvious in its meaning and intent. It is f'd-up writing and I doubt it was all that clear when they wrote it.

I also find it interesting that even people like Scalia freely acknowledge that gun restrictions are fine--they just can't go too far. In the last big 2nd Am ruling--I believe it was a ban on handguns in Chicago--Scalia said cities are free to enact restrictive laws, but that one went too far because it banned a whole class of weapon. I'm not sure where he pulled that distinction from, but he clearly indicated that restrictive laws are not automatically unconstitutional.

oh, ok.
I misread.

I wonder if the seller is required to send in a form to the ATF after the sale. I want to say if they sell to someone out of state they need to fill it out (but can't remember). But... to your point, you're right - they could sell and not send in anything.

not sure if at that point a gun is used in a crime but still registered to the first owner, if the original seller can face some charges. hmmm.

I know that is another issue as well. Obviously many people are hunting types and require guns. I have absolutely no idea what could be done to separate the people with genuine desires to just hunt and those that are a little more "iffy."

I shoot them. I display them. I let it be known by others that I have them. What I think about the laws you mentioned is that laws don't keep criminals from obtaining weapons, only law abiding citizens abide by laws.
