Gun Control

We have all heard about what happened in Aurora, Co, and I think that Gun Control is going to be a huge topic in the following months.


What measures need to be taken? Do you have any ideas that will help prevent this kind of thing from happening again as it pertains to guns?

Who knew?

More cars equal more traffic fatalities.

More fast food equal more obesity.

We could do this all day...or point out that governments have killed more civilians by disarming them than homicides commited with guns.

Also, keep in mind, that the majority of firearm homicides are by illegal firearm users. Gangs, criminals, etc...

Other nations with high firearms ownership and comparably low murder rates include Denmark, Greece, Switzerland, Germany and Austria. Holland has a 50 percent higher murder rate despite having the lowest rate of firearm ownership in Europe. And Luxembourg, despite its total handgun ban, has a murder rate that is nine times higher than countries such as Norway and Austria.

It turns out that in nations where guns are less available, criminals manage to get them anyway. After decades of ever-stricter gun controls, England banned handguns and confiscated them from all permit holders in 1997. Yet by 2000, England had the industrialized world's highest violent crime rate -- twice that of the U.S. Despite the confiscation of law-abiding Englishmen's handguns, a 2002 report of England's National Crime Intelligence Service lamented that while "Britain has some of the strictest gun laws in the world, [i]t appears that anyone who wishes to obtain a firearm [illegally] will have little difficulty in doing so."

I'm glad I can bring some joy into your life.

It occurs to me that I've been kind of a prick about the gun control since Friday's shoot-'em-up. I'm actually not for the revocation of the Second Amendment, or for taking guns away from anybody. I'd like to see some consistent standards, and only a few more common-sense restrictions along the lines of waiting periods and a national do-not-sell list, but mostly I'd like those damn 100-round drums and extended banana clips to go away. I think they do more harm than good, allowing psychos like this one to wound or kill 70 people in 90 seconds.

My other complaint is the ridiculousness of both sides in how they argue their points. It's pretty sad; there are enough logical fallacies and pitfalls there to make your head spin, and I don't trust the main organizers of either side. We've got to try something, because I'm tired of this kind of news.

See here's the problem with that....first of all have you ever seen someone who is good with a gun drop an empty mag and insert a new one,if so you will be calling for a ban on all semi auto weapons.

Yeah he was....And using a 100 rd. drum is also what kept the killings at a lower number then they were.....The weapon jammed due the the drum.
