The conversation discourse in D.C. should be better.

I've been gone from D.C. for a couple of years and since I've been back I've been disappointed in the name calling and ridicule of another posters position. Immediately writing off someone who doesnt agree with you.

Yes, there are going to be strongly held beliefs on both sides. Passion for a position. If your position is the right position, surely you can make your point without name calling or making fun od the poster. Surely you can point out the fallacy of their position without calling then an idiot.

I'm not saying we have a cumbaya moment. Just that we each think before a post if we need to post the vitirol and name calling to make our points.

Just because D.C. isn't moderated doesn't mean we should just post any ****ing thing we want.

Do you have a macro button that makes it so you don't have to type this stuff out each and every time.

Maybe you can put it in your sig.

You don't do what I do for money. You have to believe in the mission.

I felt it was a privlidge and honor to help make us safer. My skills are the skills the military just doesnt have. They need patrotic americans with these skills who believe in the mission that have the passion to perform these tasks.

I still remember 9/11 like it was yesterday. My and the wifes family has been in this country since the early 1700's. I'm the first person in my family to go to college etc. This country has been good to me.

Why can't I be for eliminating every member of Al-Quaeda on the face of the earth and also vote for Obama? Why can't I believe as I do and still be a patriot?
JFC, he just said that he respects it even though he doesn't agree with it, and you act like he called you a terrorist. Take your pompous bullshit somewhere else.

Come on...that was from the fringe of the fringe, and not really identifiable with a specific party. The birther/Muslim/hates America theme continues to the point were a large portion of Rs say he wasn't born here. "Mainstream" Rs, elected office holders, still make references about it.

Bush was AWOL and wanted black people to die and brought down the WTC and bombed the levies

Is crazier than

Obama has claimed to have been born in a different country, and I think he's lying now

I don't believe either side, but your categorization of the two is laughable.

I agree it's probably not terribly productive to just open fire on people with no regard.

My policy, in so much as I actually have one, is three tiered:

1. Ignore the total assholes, who exist in this forum to be little more than mere assholes. You'll figure out who they are pretty quick. I don't even read their posts. If you have to use ignore, use it. I would recommend doing that for most people. It really will improve your DC experience tenfold.

2. Take it easy on folks you're not too familiar with. Give them the benefit of the doubt, trust me if they don't deserve it, they'll squander it almost immediately and you can discard them to my previous point. For me personally, unless someone tries to take a rhetorical potshot at me first, I'm not interested in engaging in anything too nasty or mean spirited.

3. Know that it will be a lot different with some of the folks around here who have argued with each other for years, now. Baby Lee made this point earlier. We're more comfortable with each other, we like each other more and "get" each other's styles more than folks who have just started interacting. So we'll get a little rougher with each other but that's because, I assume, we know each other pretty well and feel more comfortable exchanging barbs.

I'm pretty sure he was just rambling on a tangeant.

I don't think that was directed back at vailpass.

But I'll let BCF speak for himself. Now that I've spoken for him.

Serously? Books, movies, t-shirts, a very lucrative business for feeding the kooks sprung up from that and the D's played right along with it.

Yeah. I'm a mult with 22,000 posts who has been here since 2005. You've really got your finger on the pulse of this place. Please tell us more about how we should converse with one another (that is if you aren't too busy making a lot of money nobly serving us even though it's not as much as you could be making elsewhere).
