Romney: 47% of Americans are victims

I guess this maybe the kill shot for his campaign. I know some of you believe you this and won't find a problem with what he said but as a person running for POTUS you probably shouldn't write off 1/2 the country especially in a disparaging way.

A hidden camera video of Mitt Romney at a fundraiser shows him talking disparagingly of people who will vote for President Obama.

Said Romney: "There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what...These are people who pay no income tax."

He adds: "My job is is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

Its a marginal rate you ****ing retard. You only pay the increased rate on any dollars above $2 million in my example. Learn a little about tax calculations before you spout off.

Really how can you justify that?
The percentage a person pays should be irregardless of income level. Could you also feel good telling a family of 3 making $35,000/yr that they should be forced to pay $13,300/yr in income taxes? How about a single mother making $24,000/yr, can you feel comfortable forcing her to pay $9,120/yr in federal taxes on top of what she pays for state and local?

Did I say I would get rid of the lower rates as you get to 250k? You really need to learn about the progressive tax system we have here in the US.

Most of the Republican base is literally incapable of understanding marginal tax rates. Of course that never stops them from having extremely strong opinions on the subject.

We've had this discussion over and over on other forums. They just don't get it. One guy claimed to be a "wealth adviser", and didn't understand a thing about how marginal tax rates.

I'm pretty sure it's FOXNews' fault for whining and whining about the poor guy making $250,000, when that guy would not even be affected by a marginal tax hike that kicks in at $250,000.

Hey calm down now, I missed that part of your post. I wasn't aware of marginal tax structure and see it now and understand what you are saying.
That said, I've never claimed to be a tax expert. I plug my numbers into what ever software version I buy that year and let it figure it out.
So a person making $10mil a year should pay 35% of income between 250k and 2mil and 38% of income over that. Got it.

Or is it that the more successful a person becomes financially, the greater the burden of taxpayer funded services they become as well?

Again this is about something you obviously don't understand - progressive taxation. Every nation on earth collects taxes has some form of progressive taxation. I know you don't realize this because FOXNews never talks about it - but it's true.

The idea is that someone with millions in spending money can afford to shoulder a little more of the burden than someone whose every disposable dollar goes towards necessities. The other part of the equation is that rich people have much much more to lose this country were to descend into chaos will be invaded by another country. In general peasants just have to answer to a new master, rich people lose everything.

Even if we went to a national sales tax like England and other European countries, that would have a progressive structure as well. The more money you make, the more you consume in products normally, thus you pay more tax. We aren't the only country that "punishes" the rich.

No it is about being fair. A 25% tax rate on a person with an income of $1000 is substantially more of a burden than a 25% tax rate on a person with an income of $10 million.
