I've heard some good things about Buffalo Trace Bourbon.

Can't get it up here north of the border but, through a wine distributer I am able to order a case. Would like to hear from someone who knows their stuff and has tried it before I order.

Yep, Tennessee whusk is essentially bourbon - but they run it thru a bunch of charcoal as one part of their process - and it must be made in Tennessee. Jack Daniels is pretty famous Tenn. whusk, there may be a couple of others. George Dickle is the other one I've got on the shelf. I will refrain from making recommendations, that charcoal thing kinda throws the taste off for me - but YMMV. When it comes to whiskey, it's all pretty good. Some I'll buy again and again.

I gotta hookup through a buddy that a guy brings us back a case of stuff to split every time he goes home to KY. This time it's Noah's Mill, which I know, and Pritchard's which I don't.

Just want to know what to expect from it.

Now that I'm a drunk, I'll chime in. Bourbon is my drink of choice. Scotch is reserved for celebrations, and anyone who likes scotch that hasn't tried The Balvenie is really missing out. For the money, it's my favorite. Better than The Macallan IMO and that was my fav until I tried Balvenie.

As far as bourbon goes, Jim Beam is my go to. It's cheap, it's delicious, and it does the job. Jack is delicious and what I drink when I'm mixing. But generally, I drink Beam for sipping and shooting. Buffalo Trace is one I think I'm going to try. In fact, I may pick up a bottle tonight and try it. Knob Creek is another one I haven't tried.

When I feel like spending the money though, nothing beats Makers. Straight up on the rocks, or mixed with Coke. Never, ever shoot Makers though. It'd be a waste. It's delicious.

They seem to be listing it on their website again, I wonder if that means it's back in production? I'll check the labels and see when it was bottled before I crack any. If it's collectible, then I'm not quite so bummed...

Otherwise, that's disappointing. Normally my house bourbons (usually something in the BT/EW Single Barrel/Turkey range) for mixing or giving to the unwashed who come over are cheaper than this. Hopefully it'll make better than average Manhattans and Old Fashioneds.

The only problem w/collectible bourbon is finding collectors who'll buy your stuff. Taste it and set the rest aside (laying down, to keep the cork wet if there's a cork involved) if it's not your cuppa chai. The way things go, it'll probably be collectible again. Meanwhile, keep your eye peeled for bourbon collectors - that forum - and a few others like it - may not be a bad place to watch. Meanwhile, enjoy that Noah's Mill. One of my faves.

Yup, same with collectible wine. It's just nice to have the option.

Noah's Mill is very good. It's been a nice find, especially for the price and has become one I try to always have around.

Actually the waste would be mixing the Maker's with Coke. Coke kills the flavor of whiskey. If I am drinking a whiskey and Coke it is because the whiskey is is shitty. If you need a mixer for a good whiskey, just use a splash of 7. Takes the edge off and still allows you to get the flavor of the spirit in hand.

Buffalo Trace is pretty good for the price point, but like someone else pointed out I'd rather pay a couple extra bucks and get the Evan Williams single barrel.

I am a big fan of a couple of BT's higher end things like Blanton's and George T. Stagg. Careful with that last one, it normally clocks in around 140 proof. It's drinkable at that, but really intense. I like to cut it down to about 115-120 which is where I feel like it shows best.

Others I've had recently that stood out: Noah's Mill is very good; Black Maple Hill is very good as well; Pappy Van 23 was good, but not a great value IMO.

I'm spoiled...I live close to Jack Rose and get over there about once a week. I can try stuff by the glass there I'll never be able to find (they have 5 different Mortlachs FFS) or afford by the bottle. Their list is 36 pages long (I'd estimate they have about 1200 whisk(e)ys) and they have a rotating bourbon on tap.

The place is heaven. There's probably 10-15 ft more bar out of frame to the right.

That place looks like a dream.

Also, I just love it whenever Chest Rockwell posts. It's a rare treat to see my all-time favorite ChiefsPlanet avatar.
