ha, they aren't random! They are meant to emphasize a word.. should I switch to bolding them? I try to make my text appear like I would speak it aloud... I guess it isn't working.

I KNOW kyle. It was Denise's trademark. And I read it and think of a wall of text with random caps.

You've really got to be crazily invested far down the deep end of the "the other party is evil" rabbit hole to get here. It's not like Obama went full Gore sighing mode here, he generally smiled, looked down, took notes, and sounded clunky and off in the debate. This is not a reaction to Romney or a slight against anyone, even when he was losing to Hillary and badly needed an energizing comeback performance he performed no better. The guy is simply an introverted thinker who cant speak well without a teleprompter. Guess what. Over 99+% of the country, including probably everyone hating him, are the same way and would do far worse looking like a stammering awkward fool on the big stage. He obviously loves his family, seems like a decent enough guy, no matter what you think of his politics, why do these far-right zealots constantly have to go convince themselves that Obama is fundamentally a bad person? Its almost like a soldier going off to war, and having to convince himself that the enemy are all sub-human monsters to morally convince himself that its OK to kill for his country. (which of course, is sometimes necessary, but Obama is not a WWII Japanese soldier)

I read this somewhere else and thought it sums it up pretty nicely:
"Obama arguing with a strawman can work… but not if the strawman is standing right next to you with his own mic!" |

The first thing I thought of when I saw Obama smirk was Al Gore sighing in his debate with Bush back in 2000.
The smirk was not a slight facial tick, it was an outright smirk. It made Obama look less Presidential. If you took a caveman and had him watch the debate, and then ask him who he thought the sitting President was, I doubt he would say Obama. He just did not seem Presidential tonight. He lacked the gravitas of the office. Romney seemed to have it....not on the level of Bill Clinton, but he appeared to have more of that gravitas than at any point of his campaign so far. It will be interesting to see how this effects the polls in the next few days.

You really have to be almost a blind, partisan political hack pre-disposed to not liking the guy to think Obama acted boorish, when the biggest complaint against him about his debate performance is excessive passiveness.

Look, I am not saying that the smirk alone should be the basis on which one should base their vote. I am saying that it made the President look bad, and it contributed to him losing the debate tonight by a wide margin, especially when you combine his smirk with his overall body language and his lack of eye contact with Romney and the way he constantly was looking down at his podium.

Just to be clear (and its good that the audio cant be heard well because we're talking visuals here), here is a typical example of Obama's reaction. (the "worst" comes at about 17 seconds in) Pretty mild stuff here.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69H6Nj7gE3w You really have to be a delicate flower to be offended by this.

Compare Romney to the typical candidate, not to a candidate who is the first presidential candidate in 7 elections with a net unfavorable rating, who just pissed off a ton of people with 47%, going up a likable black president. Romney's not on a short leash, fairly or not he has no room for anything that could possibly be mis-interpreted at all.
Every other presidential candidate has always had plenty of room to, you know, react like like a normal human being. A smile is hardly damning unless you think he's a Kenyan demon from hell.

Also, at 17 seconds in, Obama is smiling. That was nowhere close to the facial expression (smirk) that he used later on in the debate. Again, there is nothing to be offended by. It was a smirk. He looked less Presidential. Guess what? Shit happens, and even Presidents are human and have moments when they don't look as Presidential as they want to be. If you are scoring the debate like a boxing match, you deduct a couple of points from Obama (or add a couple of points to Romney for getting that response), and you move on. You seem to think that anyone who noticed the smirk, or thought it was less than Presidential is some kind of raving lunatic, and that is just not the case.

He only had to have the last word on topics on which the President misrepresented his positions.

If Barack and Michelle get romantic later tonight, I won't be surprised if she yells out the name "Mitt" in the heat of passion.
