The IRS collects it (and the Treasury Department borrows an additional amount). The vast bureaucracy skims off a huge chunk of it. A large amount is given to a class of politically favored individuals and businesses (often campaign contributors). What's left trickles down to those in need.

Stimulus money and such as the handouts to green contributors was more in the vein of a flood and cannot be looked at in the trickle category....

I hate to refer to Obama as a Socialist or as a Communist because those are very inflammatory words, and the people you're trying to convince often stop listening when those words get thrown around.

However, it did occur to me while watching last night's debate that Obama TRULY believes that he has all the answers and that the best economy is a planned economy where he and like-minded people are the central planners.

That was the main difference between their answers regarding the role of government. Romney wants the government to get the hell out of the way so the private sector can create jobs. Obama says you can't trust the private sector and that you should trust him instead.

That's an awfully scary path to go down.

My only explanation for Obama's terrible performance is some combination of being wrong-footed by Romney's sudden turn to the middle and lack of practice/energy.

Also, Jim Lehrer couldn't control two 4-year olds arguing over a candy bar.

This isn't necessarily directed at you, as I've heard it from a couple different people this morning, but I don't understand this. Do people really think Romney was ever more "right" than he appeared last night?

If Obama's staff didn't know Romney's true political tendencies, they all need fired.
