Interested to hear why you think that, or is my sarcasm meter off? I did notice you voted that Obama won in the poll....

Gotcha. I figured it was sarcasm, but the fact that you actually voted for Obama in the poll gave me pause.

Although I do notice that Direckshun has not voted yet...he must answer poll questions like he answers regular questions...not at all.

Sudden turn to the middle? Have you really been this insulated from the campaign?

So, it looks like the official reason for Obama's pathetic performance was that "the real" Mitt Romney didn't show up last night.

You mean he was definitely caricatured as much right-er than he debated last night. His positions last night were just as right as he's been all along. I find it an acceptably pragmatic form of conservatism. BEP and billay say it makes him a RINO. Obviously one of those is a more reasonable take than the other, but they wouldn't be calling him a RINO if he'd always been a fire-breathing movement conservative.

How long until we see what kind of bounce in the polls Romney gets, 2-3 days?

Romney has always been a moderate. That's what I've found so funny about the 'mittens' attacks and things of that nature. Romney's as centrist a Republican as you're ever going to find. And yet, they continue to try to hammer him as this far right wing-nut so that he's easier to pillory. And then they'll say things like "Of course I'm not an ideologue, it's just that the Republicans won't offer any sort of reasonable candidate..." Huh? Romney is the embodiment of a centrist, 'reasonable' candidate. Occasionally he'll say something like the 47% quip and the libs eat it up as another elitist comment, but the fact is that he simply did a really shitty job of articulating what is a fairly moderate viewpoint re: the fear of the rise of entitlement programs. You honestly don't think the working middle-class thinks about that sort of thing? Afterall, if it's the 99% vs. the rich 1%, well I guess that leaves about 52% in between that 47% and the 1% that probably aren't real excited about the rise of the entitlement class. Romney is exceedingly centrist in almost everything. In fact, if you slapped a D after his name, he'd be considered little more than a southern Democrat. Yet now we have to hear this nonsense about his hard lean to the middle. Gimme a break, folks. What you saw last night is the real Romney, not the painted up caricature of Gordon Gecko that the Democrats desperately want to run against.

Gallup does a 3 day rolling average, IIRC. So the bump will start to set in on Monday, with a more defined result by Tuesday/Wednesday. You'll know how sustained that bump was by Friday.

Romney = Lower taxes = More capital in markets = Higher possibility of growth. Obama = Higher taxes = Less capital in markets = Less possibility of growth. Romney = End of Obamacare = More personal freedom + Less unfunded liabilities we can't afford. Obama = Continuation of Obamacare = Less personal freedom + Another unfunded liability we can't afford. Romney = Deficits are unsustainable and need to be addressed immediately. Obama = Deficits are sustainable and don't need to be addressed immediately. That's enough for me. |
