How the hell are Rich Gannon and Brad Johnson left?

You'd have to be a pretty big homer to put Trent over a 4 time Super Bowl winner even though Bradshaw's stats are pretty mediocre even considering the era.

I know not many here would know Baugh, but he was on the initial class of inductees into the HOF. Think about that. There was no better QB in football until Johnny U came along. He practically invented the passing game for the NFL. Keep in mind that there was no such thing as roughing the passer in his day. Twice an NFL champion including his rookie season.

Game 1: I loved Cunningham too much to vote against it here.

Game 2: Montana seems like a no-brainer here.

Game 3: I picked Baugh here. I never cared much for Aikman.

Game 4: Otto Graham was a stud for his day, but Elway played against far superior athletes and he was still a man among boys (who happened to play for the enemies of all that is good and holy).

Game 5: Tarkenton gets my vote for being able to extend a play without becoming pathetic by extending a career.

Game 6: Young is to Simms as the Baltimore Ravens are to the KU Jayhawks.

Game 7: I was deadlocked on this one until I read Rain Man's tie-breaking argument about Trent Green's ability to lead block.

Game 8: I'll take the guy who can run, Rich Gannon.

Ignoring the obvious choices:

I took Bradshaw over Green. I think Bradshaw is overrated, but Trent Green? C'mon...

Favre over Tarkenton, though in many ways they're the same guy, at least Favre won it all, etc.

I took Otto Graham over Elway. This is a tough match. Graham is an all-time great. He was All-Pro NINE times. Hell, his CAREER Passer Rating is 86.6, which is higher than Elway's.

MUCH higher than Elway's.

And of course I'm completely neutral on this.

Look, the biggest travesty here is to Randall Cunningham.

Cunningham:

TD-INT 207–134
Yards 29,979
QB Rating 81.5

Fouts:

Career NFL statistics
TD-INT 254-242
Yards 43,040
QB Rating 80.2

Did Cunningham lead his team to lots of victories? No, not really. Why? Gee, maybe it's because he played in the late 80s and 90s when teams like the Niners, Giants, Bears, Redskins and Cowboys were DOMINATING THE ENTIRE NFL and three of those were IN THE FREAKING NFC East.

Dan Fouts meanwhile was in the much softer AFC, which pretty much got pummeled year after year in the Super Bowl by whoever the NFC put in.

And the talent around them wasn't even remotely close. Fouts had Kellen Winslow and Charlie Joiner to throw to, an elite offensive line and solid running backs. Cunningham had what? Not much...

I was a HUGE fan of Air Coryell and really liked the Chargers back then, and I like Dan Fouts alot, but Cunningham is getting jobbed here.

I thought it was actually a very interesting match-up/comparison.

I took Cunningham, the man was mobile and could pass with accuracy. Fouts, although I was not old enough to watch him play in the day, seems like a poor man's Dan Marino, just couldn't win big ball games despite the gawdy numbers.

Dan Fouts was no Dan Marino. Dan Marino was a stunningly awesome quarterback who had two very good wide receivers and no running game or very good defense to speak of.

Look at Fouts' numbers above, especially TD/INT, and now look at Marino's:

Pass attempts 8,358
Pass completions 4,967
Percentage 59.4
TD-INT 420-252
Passing yards 61,361
QB Rating 86.4

if Cunningham and his skill set played in this current era today he would be looked at like a god.

That era was rare for a player like Cunningham, skin color, skillset, etc. He was a trendsetter for QBs of that talent and a role model for many guys to think they could play QB like that.

I know we dont take influence into account, but he was the first of his style and in the 80s/90s caught a lot of heat in that era of football for not being like the Montanas, Aikmans, Kellys, Simms who was that image America wanted in their QB promotion of their favorite team at the time.

Now you can market RG3, Cam Newton, etc and make ****ing millions of dollars. A dream.

Randall was first and he put up good stats doing so
