Fox News: Fair and Balanced?

Every news site on the internet has the 7.8 unemployment news as its lead. Fox is burying it and surrounding it with right wing propaganda. How can you someone who only watches Fox news be well informed? Does anyone really think they are fair and balanced?

It seems to me that most folks view Fox's commentators as reporters. Hannity is not a reporter, nor does he claim to be. Neither does Bill O'Reilly.

Chris Mathews does claim to be a reporter. So does Rachel Maddow.

When commentators claim to be reporters, it muddies the water and confusion reigns.

Fox News does a pretty good job of clearly defining who is a reporter (Sheperd Smith, etc.) and who is a commentator (O'Reilly, Hannity, the group on the "Five", etc.)

I think Fox News is just as biased as CNN, except they lean to the right, where CNN leans to the left. Everyone remember in the 90's when CNN was known as the "Clinton News Network" (I will admit that I am a big Bill Clinton fan, I voted for him twice.)

Its on the radio all the time. There isn't a damn difference between CBS, NBC, CNN or FOX when it comes to the actual news.

Fox is the only newstation that doesn't slant to the left. All other cable channels as well as Main Steam Media not only slant to the left, they've slanted so far as to skew the news and attempt to influence opinion.

Perhaps those who watch MSNBC don't need to be reminded when someone is delivering fact versus opinion.

Truth.

Fox still slants to the right, but it's comical to me that they're condemned for something that is so popular in media.... reporting with a bias and denying a bias exists.

Everything you read and hear is slanted starting from the way it's formatted and presented to you. Why is slanting left okay by most standards but slanting right is some kind of horrible crime?

Let the right wingers have their propaganda machine. Those on the left still have WAY more power to influence opinion with propaganda.

I like the option to hear 2 perspectives on the exact same thing. I'm capable of critical thought. I'll figure out what I believe.

It's not that it's "some kind of horrible crime." It's that it's disingenuous to imply that by being "fair and balanced" someone could in theory use them as their only source of news when taken in the aggregate their programming is largely opinion based and presented from a right wing viewpoint.

Their 'news' comes from the same place as every other 'news channel'. All of our news comes from the same place! Reuters and AP. Since one owns the other, we really only have one source of news.

The rest is narrative. Narrative IS NOT NEWS... but you can listen to someone's bullshit and get a lot of news the 'other side' (regardless of which side) is ignoring. Every media outlet promotes a political narrative and all of them insist there is no such narrative. What I'm asking is why is it okay for everyone else but not okay for Fox?

I agree it's disingenuous.

When Rachel Maddow calls herself a reporter and presents herself as unbiased while expressing her liberal views, she is misrepresenting herself. The viewers can tell the difference, there are many good reasons that MSNBC gets the ratings it does.

MSNBC is the worst by far and FOX is a distant second. That said FOX is totally slanted to the right. Sadly many in this country form their opinions from political entertainment and chain emails. It requires effort to research the facts. Americans are too lazy to think for themselves. Both parties have been taking turns screwing us over for years. Sadly the mainstream media is nothing more than a PR agency for the left.

The only other option is FOX and talk radio featuring shitbags like Rush, Beck, Savage and the other rightwing nut jobs. Barry is an embarrassment, so the only logical choice is to vote for AOBO. DC is a disgrace and sadly if either party has total control we are screwed. The Republicans some how became the tea party, they reinvented Reagan into a God like figure and regurgitate Reagan conservative on command. The cold hard truth is we are way past ****ed in this country~
