Based on what rules? No where in the debate agreement does it state that it is the moderator's job to rule on the correctness of a statement.

Look at Bob Scheiffer last night. He could have easily stepped in when both Romney and Obama were saying "check the record" on what was said about the auto bailouts. Scheiffer let both men make their statements, and did not endorse either one as truth, leaving that for the viewers to decide. Candy Crowley should take some lessons from Scheiffer on how to moderate.

Voters have a personal responsibility to do research on who they vote for. As most on the left typically you do, you do not want to hold the voter accountable for their personal responsibility, you want to spoon feed them.

Crowley steps out of bounds in her moderation of the debate. So much so, that I doubt we will ever see her moderate another debate at the Presidential level.

Personally, I was shocked. He makes 1 false statement the entire debate series, and gets smacked down for it.

For 2016, each candidate should get two red flags for an immediate fact-check. If you challenge and are right, you get the flag back and the other guy loses a flag. If you challenge and are wrong, you lose your other flag. Problem solved.

If they are not, it is in the best interests of our democracy that it is pointed out.

I see no reason why a moderator can't do that in a debate.

In reference to Bengazi, no. Did he say the phrase? Yes. But Candy Crowley's interpretation of how the phrased was used was wrong, and she admitted as much later on on CNN.

Did Romeny fail to articulate his point properly? Yeah, he did. And Romney would be the first to admit that. If the President did truly feel that it was an act of terror that day, why did his administration say other for the next two weeks after that statement was made?

Example of a follow up question:

Original topic: "What went wrong in Benghazi?"

Follow up question: "What steps will you, as President, take to ensure these mistakes aren't repeated?"

What you are missing here is that Crowley was being kind to Romney, basically telling him, "You're in a hole. Stop digging."

Schieffer wasn't as nice and just let Mitt continue. You should be thanking Crowley for stopping Mitt from doing more harm to himself.

So a moderator cannot provide any information at all to counter a candidate, would be your view.

For one thing, it's because they'd be unreliable if not completely biased in that role.

Something about bias on either side. Moderators are neutral, not suppose to lean either side. It's up to each candidate t stand fore themselves and convince the public of which candidates views are aligned with themselves.
