First of all, what is a hipster? I keep seeing this term thrown around, but what is it exactly? Would you describe yourself or a friend as one?

What defines a hipster in your opinion?

Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83,I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consimante professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humour. In '87, Huey released Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

Hipsters reject the culturally-ignorant attitudes of mainstream consumers, and are often be seen wearing vintage and thrift store inspired fashions, tight-fitting jeans, old-school sneakers, and sometimes thick rimmed glasses.

typically in their 20's and 30's that value independent thinking, counter-culture, progressive politics, an appreciation of art and indie-rock, creativity, intelligence, and witty banter.

I wear vintage and thrift store clothes, loose-fitting jeans, old-school sneakers, and have thick-rimmed glasses.

I'm in my LATE 30's, value independent thinking, counter-culture (when it comes to art, music, and movies), despise progressive politics, appreciate indie-rock, am creative AND intelligent, and like witty banter only if it's coming out of my mouth. I don't want to hear anyone else talk.
