Religion Do you think Heaven exists? - Page 3

As some of you may know or not I lost my mom 3 weeks ago and I am sort of struggling with my beliefs with this. She wanted to die so she could go to Heaven instead of getting her colon out. She definitely believed in Heaven and I honestly hope she wasn't disappointed.

My heart wants to believe in Heaven for the simple fact I want to see her again along with my grandma and sometime in the near future my dad.

My head tells me logically that there is probably no heaven and I get a little upset when people say she is in a better place because I really want to say Is she or how do you know?

So I am curious what you guys\gals believe and I am wondering outside of what the bible says has there been anything you have witnessed or experienced that lead you to believe one way or another?

Edit: I do appreciate all the kind words of support it does mean alot but I am not wanting this to be a sympathy thread so any argument for against is fine by me. There will be no offense taken. So have at it.

Very sorry for your loss Dirk. My mom is 85 and I will be crushed when she passes on.

I do believe in heaven as did your mother.

It is sad for those left behind, because we cherish those memories and look forward to new ones, but in reality it's a more selfish view. One of two things can happen: a)an afterlife is nonexistent, in which case eventually contributes to new life anyway or b)an afterlife is there. In the one case, there is nothing but peace and in the other there is nothing but peace.

I understand I won't get a straight answer but I was just curious if people have experienced something that made them believe in heaven.

The reason why I was curious was a couple of weeks ago our preacher said he believed in Heaven not necessarily because of what the Bible says but because of what he witnessed with his mom passing.

I've never had a moment that made me believe there is any connection between the dead and those still living. Although I used to look for it a lot.

I personally believe it's an evolved coping mechanism that helps some people deal with the finality of death. It's more comforting to think there is a place you go after you die. The human brain has great difficulty comprehending the idea of a lack of its own existence.

I would like to think that something of ourself is retained after human death. But I don't expect a shiny cloud city full of do-gooders to be waiting.

Yeah. I don't get your point here though. That still puts her out of pain. Again, I can't answer if better off versus heaven and death since I can't confirm or deny heaven.

Life is a balance of pain and joy. I think it depends entirely on your perspective.

I have zero doubt. I can't prove it, I can't sell you on it, I just kind of know it. It's what faith is actually about. This has nothing to do with a specific church, it has nothing to do with a specific pastor. It has everything to do with the feeling when you are sitting in a tree at the edge of the woods when the sun starts to creep over the horizon and black turns to orange, pink and shades of blue and you just know it can't be an accident. I can't watch one of my kids sleeping and not know it to my core.

I can't tell you anything to make you feel better about your loss, I can't prove to you that there is or isn't. I can tell you that regardless of the unknown outcome, your ancestors are still with you. This very day I read a post on CP about a conversation I had with my grandfather that took me back for a few minutes to a place that felt good.

I'm not your preacher, I'm not trying to sell you any brand of anything. I'm just telling you to find a quiet place and a quiet time and silently ask the being who knows the answer. Then listen carefully.

I don't know maybe my point is would people make the same choices in regards to death if they knew heaven didn't exist or vice versa.
