Well, this election shows how conservative evangelicals are just a niche voting block for the Rs and that if the Rs are to succeed they need to leave them behind. Even the Catholic vote is no longer a likely block for them. There's lots of young people out there who like liberty and who have not fallen into the Marxist trap either. People are catching onto how the Right isn't really for free markets but are plutocrat mercantilists using govt to gain an edge by creating markets for themselves at the expense of the people.

Yes the trend is people like hand outs. We need an articulate candidate who can convince voters that reform doesn't mean throwing grandma out in the street. I was surprised Romney/Ryan didn't do much of that both are bright guys.

Welfare tends to trend with the economy though. It would be surprising to see anything but an increase considering how bad the economy has been. In addition to that, the population increases by about 2M per year.

Not trying to justify it, as welfare definitely needs reform...

They are making some progress about 400,000 in 2004, 500,000 in 2008 to a million.

Johnson isn't horrible as I like most of his positions but his campaign was horribly run.

Perot got 19 million votes in 92 and another 8 mil in 96. Its going to take alot of $$$ for a 3rd party candidate to break through like that again.

Most of the money went to Paul earlier who had more connections and better campainers. ( not that it couldn't have been better managed either.)

There's a big Austrian network and following and Johnson may be a libertarian but he's not an Austrian. In fact some felt he was just with the Establishment on certain issues too much. So he couldn't get them all. He'd still be better than Mitt or Obama but I do think the NCs could have worked him over on Iran etc.
