GOP, 2012: Angry White Men and Their Women

Honestly, that is what the Republican party has become. Think about it...

Think about most of the obnoxious conservatives in this forum: Angry White Men....it says it all. They've been drinking the Limbaugh, Hannity, and Beck Kool-Aid for over 20 years now. Is it really surprising, then, that the party no longer appeals to anyone else--especially with their seething contempt and venomous attacks toward anyone who dares to disagree with them?

The Democrats went though a similar thing...between 1968 and 1988, when they lost 5 out of 6 Presidential elections, because they were out-of-touch with the country (too beholden to bleeding heart liberals and minorities.) Between 1992 and 2012, the Republicans have now lost the popular vote for President in 5 of the 6 elections, for the same reason (too beholden to the Tea Party and talk radio addicts.)

Until the GOP admits they have a a big problem, and are out-of-touch, and seek to moderate their policies and rhetoric....they will remain the party of Angry White Men and the Women Who Love Them. They must find ways to appeal to larger numbers of Blacks, Asians, women, and Hispanics--otherwise they are screwed. And they will continue to struggle to win national elections.

It's simple math. Demographic shifts have become political inertia, and the GOP has to recognize that reality--instead of pretending not to notice.

In 1992, Clinton brought the Democratic party back toward the mainstream. For the GOP to turn things around in 2016, they'll need to do the same thing. Whenever political parties are sucked into lunatic fringe politics, they alienate the voters who matter--in our republic, a majority. Republicans had better soon remember the role of majority rule in our country, or they may yet become this century's version of the Whigs.

It's strange though. In my circle, it seems like I'm more a 25%er. I have a ton of fb friends too so it's not like I isolate myself to just very close, like-minded people. I was expecting a better showing from GJ.

Clinton left the country in great shape, Bush and Co. destroyed it, and Obama has been trying to put it back together. Sorry it hasn't been accomplished yet in 4 years.

Well, let's look at it more objectively:

1) Clinton pulled in a Republican congress. So if you think he left the country in great shape then you would have to give that mix credit particularly since the House has the power of the purse.

2) Bush inherited Clinton's recession too.

3) Obama inherited the mess by Bush, but he did not and still does not have the right policies to get us out of it in a few years. It does not need to take this long. Obama also studied up on FDR whose policies made that depression into the Great Depression and lasted longer. That simply does not make an economy better.

4) Ignoring the role of the Federal Reserve for creating booms followed by busts is vital instead of blaming presidents. All during the Clinton era Greenspan printed money and stimulated. That money has to be spent which led to the dot com boom which went bust too. Clinton also boasted about his pushing sub-prime mortgages under the CRA for housing socialism which was part of what went wrong in 2008. Now Bush is guilty too because he pushed the "Ownership Society" and this stuff too. All and all Greenspan deserves a lot of blame too. But he doesn't get it. He enables all the spending by govt and private sector and that does not help the banks.

You have to let markets clear and things will repair faster. It's because politicians can't suffer any pain nor can the people. But that's what it takes. Keynesianism is on it's last legs.

Might be a good thing to mention that this is not a unique occurence and happens almost every election.

Me too, it's a rigged game though and more would vote that way if they thought that candidate had a chance.
