I think one of the left's problems is they're funneling all the different kinds of right-wingers they don't like into the same group.
Bible-thumpers = tea people Birthers = tea people Racists = tea people Alex Jones conspiracy types = tea people Irrational name callers = tea people People who want lower taxes = tea people Neo-cons = tea people Is there a single type of Republican the left would NOT label a tea partier? Moderate democrats? Are they tea people? |

These debates are ridiculous. Who cares what any of them call themselves. They all present information and then comment on it. The "present information" part should be fact-based and not misleading. That's where the Fox personalities come up short.

All of the folks we are talking about are biased commentators, period. You're problem is that you want to classify the Fox commentators differently. O'Donnell Mathews Schultz Maddow are equal to O'Reilly Hannity Greta None of them are journalist. You should not be relying on any of them for facts. They offer opinions and points of view. You should filter those opinions and points of view, compare them to the facts, and make your own judgement. No one in their right mind should be taking anything any of these commentators say at face value. Your bias clearly shows in your staunch defense of MSNBC....they are liberal commentators, just admit it and move on.

At the same time, mnchiefsguy, not all commentators are created equal. John Starks and Michael Jordan were both shooting guards in the NBA, but one was considerably more reliable than the other if you catch my drift.
That said, I really have no problem lumping six of those folks together, but Maddow is genuinely a different class than the rest of them. If you watched her show more regularly you'd get that. She's essentially the left's George Will with a TV show. |

My use of derogatory moniker has obfuscated the purpose of this post, instantly devolving discussion into the mendacity of the FOX News "Fair & Balanced" slogan - my bad. But seriously, folks - many conservatives were hoodwinked into believing that the polls were skewed in favor of Dems. And that Nate Silver used fuzzy math to overestimate Obama's chances of winning. Post-election analysis shows that the polls were dead on. Nate Silver's predictions were dead on (I believe with the exception of one congressional seat in North Dakota that went Dem?). Many conservatives were completely shocked that polls proved accurate and math is still math - they were terribly misinformed about both.
This anti-math & anti-science bias extends misinformation into many other areas. Many conservatives were convinced that the Bureau of Labor Statistics "cooked the books" to fool us into thinking that 171,000 jobs were created just before the election & that the number would be revised downward. It was revised upward. Because the conservatives who were fooled can now see that they were grievously misinformed, this is a fine time for introspection - to look at other areas to which that misinformation might extend. Like the veracity of Obama's birth certificate. And climate science. And the components that comprise the deficit, etc., etc.. I believe that a philosophical gravitation towards math & science & reality will result from such introspection. And that liberals & conservatives will find themselves standing upon ground far more common than was the case before these reality checks were forced upon us by post-election analysis. You guys are not discerning that good, bad or better and worse are a matter of opinion but argue them as facts.
