Conservatives: What's not to like about Jon Huntsman?

This guy has a good track record as governor, has actual foreign policy experience, is incredibly likeable and pragmatic with bipartisan credentials, and is totally composed on the stage.

What's not to like? I am obviously not the GOP's demographic here, but I think he is far and away the strongest candidate on that stage.

Yet he's polling in the single digits.

(This is a thread primarily for conservatives and those who usually vote GOP. I think my fellow liberals will have a harder time pegging why conservatives refuse to flock to him.)

This was my original horse. He would have clobbered Obama. He lost the primary because he refused to pander to the nut jobs. Sadly, perry and bachmann got votes for nut job beliefs about science and huntsman. Here's the quote that sold me on huntsman.
"Listen, when you make comments that fly in the face of what 98 out of 100 climate scientists have said, when you call into question the science of evolution, all I'm saying is that, in order for the Republican Party to win, we can't run from science," Huntsman said at a Republican debate. "We can't run from mainstream conservative philosophy. We've got to win voters."

I've always been a huge fan of Huntsman's as well. Unfortunately, as electable as he would be in a general election, the Republican party will never nominate him. Romney was our best chance to get a true moderate in the White House.

Maybe Huntsman should run as a Democrat in 2016. That would be interesting.

I don't see that as particularly likely. Huntsman's center-right, he makes the most sense as a Republican.

And for all the praise the Democratic Party gets for having a big tent, I'll be the first to admit we can persnickety little bitches who don't trust turncoat Republicans in primaries.

I, too, thought Huntsman had the stones to beat Obama. So I followed him kind of closely in the primaries.

Guy acted like a huge tool. I sure as hell wouldn't have voted for him if I were a conservative primary voter in Iowa or New Hampshire

A president who communicates with his voters:

Quote:
Even after the failure of his poorly received Nirvana joke, Jon Huntsman continues undeterred in his quest to confound Republicans with early nineties teenage pop culture references. CBS News reports:

Chowing down with state Sen. Nancy Stiles over a big plate of seafood at the 401 Tavern in Hampton, Huntsman observed, "You know there was a great line in Wayne's World, the movie, something like, 'Not worthy, not worthy.' Hardly worthy of this kind of food."

Romney would have been. If the republicans didnt sabotage him.

He only made strides when he said **** you to his party and became himself. Too little, too late.

I disagree. He didnt want to play the game. And it's ridiculous that you have to.

I'd be pissed too if I couldn't win the primary while nut bags like perry, Bachman, and santorum were soaring.

Not saying that you have to be "hip" to be president. Far from it. But if that's the case then you need to just avoid that topic altogether and not try to be funny. It's clearly not going to work.

Also, if he doesn't want to play the "game" to say one thing just to get party votes in primaries, then he clearly doesn't really know much about running for president. He's no better off than Ron Paul. Except Ron Paul doesn't bend or break on his platforms; Huntsman apparently won't break on his style. Also, Huntsman never had the community or passionate supporters of Ron Paul. That's what made Huntsman so damn frustrating. He could have beaten Obama, but he made ALL the wrong choices during primary season.

Even that one debate where Romney threw that pile of shit at him, "Jon Huntsman is a Republican who worked with Obama! We can't have him as our leader!" (crowd boos)

Huntsman: *starts speaking Chinese, thinking that his bilingual abilities will astound or impress the audience in some way, when clearly he's dealing with South Carolina Tea Party folk who don't know their asses from a hole in the ground*

Crowd: BOOOOOOOO

Huntsman: *troll smile*

/end presidential bid
