Under the table jobs

Hairdressers, photographers, carpenters... Do small businesses that frequently do cash jobs have any negative economic impact or should they be allowed to perform a service for someone without passing some of it forward?

All you ppl on your high horse, please get off. There are so many things that technically are taxed that ppl don't report. When you win $300 at the blackjack table do you include that in your taxes? Part of the attraction of doing odd jobs is not being taxed off out of your ass for doing it.

OK, I understand. I agree with you that our tax system is busted, but I disagree with you about Joe Carpenter. I think people should pay their fair share of taxes, but I can understand, given our complex and non-transparent tax code, why most people at all levels of income feel like the system is screwing them.

Speaking of..... I have a CPA friend that just did the taxes of a guy that last paid in 2003. Apparently the IRS doesn't find people not paying their taxes for the better part of a decade all that amusing.

So it is just government assistance without all of the messy paperwork?

Once worked with a CRNA who was part of the IRS is unconstitutional crowd. His wife had an interior design small business. Bragged about not paying income tax for 6 years. IRS finally decided the party was over. He lost his nursing license, she lost the business, and he now cleans fish tanks.

Self-imposed tax exemption to some could be construed as government assistance.

By the time a small business person pays fed, state, FICA its right at 50% of gross in some cases. So the incentive to do some cash business is pretty darn high.

Well I would think it was in the Govt. best interest not to get worked up over me not claiming my $300 winning in black jack. Because if you are claiming your winnings you certainly can write off your losses which is more likely in the thousands. We should all know by now the House always holds the edge.

You can only deduct losses up to the amount of your winnings.
