Denver mayor, Broncos pursue 2018 Super Bowl bid

While it'd be fun to be in a Super Bowl city personally, it'd be very sad to see them pull this off where KC never has.

UPDATED: 11/28/2012 06:39:48 PM MSTBy Jeremy P. Meyer
The Denver Post

One goal that NFL fanatic Denver Mayor Michael Hancock has for his city is to one day bring a Super Bowl to the Mile High City, and steps are being made to do just that.

The Denver Broncos and Visit Denver in late August submitted an application to the National Football League's Super Bowl Advisory Committee to bid to host the Super Bowl in 2018, 2019 or 2020.

"We will pursue it along with Visit Denver," Hancock said in a meeting with The Denver Post editorial board on Wednesday. "I think Denver would be head and shoulders above any other city to compete to host a Super Bowl."

I realize that.

But then the NFL shouldn't have denied other cities because of the climate. They should have been honest.

I don't have a problem with this (except it's Denver of course).

But...if they are going full on with the cold weather SB's...every city should get a chance in a rotation.

Jackson County voters should have approved that rolling roof idea so CHunt and glASS could brag more at owners meetings.

Stay the hell out of Denver. I don't want to deal with Super Bowl bullshit and it doesn't matter that my TV will be closer to the game.

I hope the biggest ****ing Nor'easter snowstorm that they ever saw hits NYC on Feb 1, 2014.

Super Bowl XLVIII
East Rutherford, New Jersey - Feb. 2, 2014

Then, maybe they will stop thinking cold cities are good for Superbowls.

I hope they get it. And I hope Geno is all world and we hoist the trophy in their stadium. That would be epic.

There's someone who has never been here. I do hope most people believe this, though. I tell everyone Denver is on a mountain at 14000 feet and we just have a lot of cows and one Applebees that doesn't serve alcohol.

Don't move here.

If you can host a SB outdoors in NY, then few cities are off limits.

To be clear, the Broncos and city of Denver are currently putting together an application for a bid to the Super Bowl in either years 2018 (Super Bowl 52 or LII) , 2019 (LIII) or 2020 (LIV).

The league will decide in about 10 months or so whether Denver is included in the bidding process.

Denverís chances will initially hinge on how Super Bowl 48 (XLVIII) at the New Jersey New Meadowlands goes next year. But I would think snow or cold or unseasonably warm, the league would strongly consider Denver because of its vibrant downtown and relatively rabid sports fan base. Weather be darned.

Iíve been to the last seven Super Bowls, eight overall (my first was John Elwayís last game). It rained buckets in Miami while Peyton Manning won his Super Bowl with the Indianapolis Colts in 2007. There were heavy snowstorms/icestorms during the week leading up to the Super Bowl in Detroit in 2006 and Dallas in 2010. Detroit had a massive cab problem. Couldnít get a cab. Dallas had a massive transportation shutdown. It didnít even clear the sidewalks.

And then it was beautiful last year in Indianapolis.

Iím no Kathy Sabine but Iím forecasting a decent chance of single-digit temperatures for the first week of February, 2018.

Like not requiring KC to get the rolling roof passed to host a SB?
