No, it wasn't. They have discussed doing away with two preseason games and replacing them with regular season games. Nobody has ever suggested making preseason games count.

I'm fairly certain that is what he meant, that the 2 games would be converted to regular season games. What else would he have mean by "transforming them into games that count"? A game is either PS and doesn't count, or it's regular season and counts.

The distinction is important because he is saying that not counting preseason games towards the season records is simply an accounting gimmick which is ridiculous.

No it's not. I love a good semantic argument, but we'll have to just agree to disagree on this one.

The fact that it's not a real distinction is why I was right when I called it an accounting gimmick.

'

well, it kind of is. They decided not to make them count, so teams don't take them seriously. It IS a gimmick, and simply because of the accounting. If the NFL said tomorrow that they would count, then nothing actually changes. The games still happen, the same teams still play, but teams would obviously revise their tactics.

Not sure if credible, but Kevin Jones is a sports reporter and producer for WUSA channel 9. (proof: look at the twitter feeds on the right side of this link: http://www.wusa9.com/sports/blogs/capital9/default.aspx)

I wouldn't say real media are running with this yet, but this is probably above "insider rumor".

Perhaps the move to super-conferences was inevitable. But it's very difficult to look at the possible construction of the Big X and not say that they poured a shit ton of water on the conference.

If the ACC is truly dying, I'm going to have a hard time not envisioning UNC headed to the SEC, which would be a ****ing coup for the league.

Extremely hard sell for the academia side of UNC. Not to mention alumni would push back. Its B1G for them or live off basketball. lol.. but it would give you another team to chant for.

I'm sure the alumni would prefer for their university to be excluded from one of the four power conferences.

Academics are not driving realignment, as evidenced by the Nebraska domino, and the four major conferences will be fairly comparable, with the Big X being #1, of course.

Entirely different animal when your dealing with UNC. Their disdain for the culture of the SEC runs deep. With the pockets of their alumni deeper. NC ST is far more likely for the SEC which would also be a coup for them.

I'll assume you mean Big XII, OU will be fine regardless what happens. Doubt SEC makes the bowl deal if the Big X was in trouble
