Why people laugh at Creationists

Taking a lead from Killer Clown I thought I'd create a alternative thread to post some videos I like...

[EDIT New video here]

So on with the show:

Here's the Kent Hovind Theory:

"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books.
Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders.
Do not believe in traditions simply because they have been handed down for many generations.
But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it."

Spill what? I do not believe that the death of our containers is the death of that which the container carries. I have no reason to think this. I just do.

However, the idea that you're going to be judged against an impossible standard by your creator, and that he had to devise some kind of loophole so that he could stand the detestable sight of you is silly to me. Extremely silly.

Impossible? Nothing is impossible. All The Lord asks is that you ask Jesus to cover your sins and get to know him.

Nope. You just don't seem to be capable of rational thought regarding religion.

So your premise is that EVERY one gets fired? No one quits or retires?

Now that's rational.

Wow, you can't really be this stupid. It's kind of sad that you just sort of turn your brain off whenever this subject comes up. I think my point is fairly obvious. People do get fired. You could even say that it happens every day. I myself have fired people. Sometimes people are fired even though they aren't really doing anything wrong, the company just can't keep them. You can, and perhaps should, prepare for this possibility as it is a basic observable fact of existence. Comparing that to any aspect of an afterlife is ridiculous. This is just another example of your inability to think rationally regarding religious topics. You just can't seem to do it. Even the most basic principles of logic elude you.

OK got it, so you DO believe everyone gets fired and no one quits or retires.
Logic <> you.

You keep insisting people get fired, yet can't seem to admit they might quit or retire.

Can you read that sentence and decipher its meaning?

You really still don't get it? I get the feeling that it has become obvious to you that you have lost yet another argument, and have latched onto this in order to save face. Nothing else really makes sense here. I'll explain it to you one again. People do get fired. That is a fact. It is a possibility no matter how likely or unlikely. Preparing for an event that actually exists, and may happen to you, is a logical choice. Your analogy is ridiculous.

once again, all you're doing is cherypicking verses, taking them out of context, and looking like a fool.

you know why you don't understand? know why it's confusing? because you aren't seeking anything from it but placating your own selfish interests.

you're doing nothing but making it impossible for anything to be revealed.

this is why God says you will be without excuse...you knew, but rejected.
OK, you caught me. I'm actually not confused by Christianity itself... and because the entire premise of religion is ridiculous, I ridicule it. Although, it is interesting to me from a philosophical perspective, and important because its a dangerous philosophy. I believe it should be the duty of all non-believers to whack-a-mole religious silliness whenever it pokes up its head. Most do not have the guts to confront it head-on because Christians have held a near-monopoly on most of society in this land from the beginning. Gotta lotta respect for Bill Maher - he just blurts out the truth & takes the heat.

Thankfully, it is becoming more commonplace and acceptable for folks to admit that they know its justa buncha hooie. Its tough, for many Americans have been subjected to it as "fact" when they were young children, long before they have the capacity to make up their own minds. When mommy & daddy tell you that Santa brings presents and there are invisible people flying around on bird wings - you believe them. When you get older, they tell you that Santa is no longer real, but the invisible people still are. Many of us eventually figure out that flying bird-people are not real either, but admitting it would be frowned upon by friends, family & society.

Non-believers, UNITE!! Its OK to admit that you know its not so! Free yourselves from the dogma of the ancient goat-herders! Say it loud - Cavemen did not ride around on dinosaurs! Earth is not only 6,000 years old! Women are not made from other people's rib-bones! Snakes do not talk! MLK said, "The Arc of the Moral Universe Is Long, but It Bends Toward Justice." I say, the arc of scientific understanding is long, but it bends towards the dissolution of religious dogma. Its a natural facet of the evolution of man.

I actually do have some serious questions about religion, but my abject disrespect understandably offends Believers to the point where they don't care to engage. Stuff like, can people really make themselves believe something? Say you want to live for eternity... can you really just choose to believe it is so? Seems to me that you either believe something, or you do not - regardless of how you want things to be. I could choose to believe that there is no coffee table in front of the sofa, but I sure as heck am going to trip over it when I get up.

And what is "faith?" The dictionary sez "belief that is not based on proof." Can people really decide what to have faith in? Will I still bang my shin if I decide to "have faith" that the coffee table is not there? That is something that I am confused about - my brain is seriously lacking an understanding of the concept of "faith." Don't make no sense to me at all. Somebody saying that they "have faith" that invisible red people with horns are whispering in their ear to do naughty things. Don't make no sense....
