SCOTUS to take on allowing Gays to marry. What say you?

There are two cases(DOMA and Proposition 8) to be heard by the SCOTUS this session.

At the base of the question is do gay Americans have the same rights as heterosexual Americans? And if so, do they need their constitutional rights protected at the federal level.

I've never had an openly gay friend, co-worker or family member. I did coach a little league baseball team. On that team I had a player with two Mom's. The players and the parents accepted the kid of the two Mom's as any other player. The other parents let their kids go over to the two Mom's house for sleepovers etc. It wasn't a factor to consider in the slightest.

I don't have any personal experience to know what rights is actually being denied. However, I believe that for whatever reason they were born that way. It's not a choice. You can't pray it out of them. You can't give them therapy and turn them into heterosexuals. They are what they are naturally and we should just accept them.

IMHO, the government/city/state/society have no right to tell it's citizens what two consenting adults do in the privacy of their own bedroom. some of our citizens who they can and who they can't love. Who they can and can't marry. History will not be kind to the discrimination of gays, with cause. It's time to end this era of gay discrimination.

I don't care if gays get married. The only problem I see with it is if people start suing churches for discrimination if they refuse to perform a ceremony. Which, anti-church people would probably try and do, just out of spite and to try and make some point.

Slow to adapt to our changing society. Maybe this time, the R's won't try to block equality for gays. They will just move on like the rest of America has moved on.
All this bullshit you talk about being civil, and lamenting the language used on the board just goes out the window when you keep saying, "RWNJ". It's just as insulting as anything else, and it makes you look like the douchebag you accuse others of being.

Just remember that the next time you climb up on your high horse, all star.

BS. You don't get to dictate how I am on this board. You and redneckraider get to call me all kinds of names, hurl insults and then I use the term RWNJ thats not even directed at any individual, you get on your high horse. You and the others chose this path. I will not just accept the insults and not respond in kind. You back off, I will also.

But in this case, it should only offend RWNJ's. If you are one, then you deserve to be offended. They are just modern day anarchists. They hate this situation so lets just blow everything up.

And JFC, I don't consider you, patteau or 99.9% or the R's on this board RWNJ's.

I don't try and dictate how you are on the board. No one really does, but you, as far as I know. You're the one white knighting the board by complaining about the tone, and patting yourself on the back and saying you cleaned it up.
I'm pointing out the fact that you use the same partisan, retarded language as the people you complain about.
And what path did I choose? Insulting your, "Academy" was about it as far as I know. Heaven forbid I insult the, "Academy" whatever the hell that is, anyway. Please let me know the barrage of insults I've hurled towards you. I insulted the Academy and called you pompous. I think most would agree you are pompous, by the way. I'm sure a minimum amount of introspection would allow you to see that.
Use the phrase RWNJ all you want, but you're the one who started a thread complaining about people just dismissing other posters as dumb or saying they're just stupid. You're the one that complains about the tone and the language, not me. Then you keep using RWNJ. It's no different.

As far as you not directing RWNJ at anyone in particular- the way you post it sure makes it seems like you address it to all the conservatives on the board.

The people who want to blow up America, go over the cliff just blow up America because they don't like the path we are on are just modern day anarchists. Anarchists can't be reasoned with or have a place at the table. They want to destroy the table.

Stevieray, you have some extreme views but they are legitimate views and they are earnest heart felt feelings. You have a right to see your beliefs become the law of the land. However, the minority have a right to be protected from their rights being taken away by the majority. Its not a black and white, right and wrong situation.

Uncle Sam should not be in the Marriage business at all but, since they just can’t keep their big fat noses out of it, they should not be allowed to make laws that discriminate against any group of consenting adults.

Well, let's start from the beginning. It was a Republican (Abe Lincoln) who issued the Emancipation Proclamation which freed the slaves of the South and Republicans in the House and Senate who passed the 13th Amendment which freed slaves throughout the country. Wrong side of history: democrats.

Women's suffrage. The 19th Amendment passed the House by a vote of 304-89. 200 of the yes votes were Republicans. 70 of the no votes were democrats. It passed the Senate by a vote of 56 to 25. 36 of the yes votes were Republican. 17 of the no votes were democrat. Wrong side of history: debatable.

Civil Rights Act? 80% of Republicans in Congress voted for the 1964 Civil Rights Act while only 64% of democrats did. Of those who voted against it, 73% were democrats. Wrong side of history: democrats.

With Medicare, and to a lesser degree SS, on a collision course with insolvency, democrats refuse to admit there's a problem while Republicans campaign on addressing the problem now before the problem becomes a full blown crisis. Wrong side of history: democrats.

Im seeing a pattern here.

But with your tendency to revise history to fit your political views, I shouldn't be surprised. The "real" unbiased historians are clear on which party was on the wrong side of history almost every time in our history as a country dating all the way back to the revolution.
