PC to TV Streaming - Wireless

I have a ton of content (TV Shows, Movies & Music) on my desktop that I much rather watch on my 55" LED TV than my 21" monitor in my bedroom.

I have a PS3 hooked up to the T.V. but that doesn't allow me to use files over 4gb, so 720p & 1080p videos can't be watched due to the FAT32 issue.

What's the best route to go about this wirelessly?

Got PMS to work on my MacBook Pro but not on my Win7 desktop. I'm okay with that but how do I get it to stream smoother? Does my ps3 need to be connect via LAN or MacBook Pro?

Somewhat off topic here, but i don't want to start a thread for it.

Sometimes i want to connect my laptop to my flatscreen (to play games) in the room via HDMI, but when I do, the resolution looks like crap. The text is real hard to read...it just doesn't look anywhere near as good as it does on my laptop screen.

Why is this and what can i do to fix it?

It's probably trying to fit the screen resolution of the laptop to the TV. Go to Display Properties on the computer and change the resolution to a different setting once it's hooked up to the TV.

I don't have one, but would the PS3 work with big files if you formatted it as ExFAT?

I must be missing something here.

How is the PS3 affected by the computer being formatted FAT32? Or is he trying to use a USB storage device or something?

I have a 1TB NAS formatted XFS and stream all kinds of shit to my PS3.

PS3 won't read files over 4gb. (Blu-Ray)

So it's the PS3 drive that's formatted FAT32?

I'm still missing something I guess because I don't understand why the HDD on the PS3 would have any effect on streaming videos from another device to the PS3.

The drive on my pc that is streaming to my PS3 is a 2 TB NTFS drive. My understanding is that the PS3 will not read any drive directly that is not FAT32. So if I had an external drive that was formatted NTFS and want to play files from it on my PS3, I would have to hook it up to a PC and then stream the content over, as opposed to just directly connecting said drive to the PS3 via USB.

Ah.

That's what I was missing.

I guess I didn't see any reason someone would want to stream direct when so many network-based options are readily available.

Agreed. The network layer takes care of that.

If you plugged it in, it wouldn't recognize it but if it's a network share it doesn't care. I'm guessing it would be the same way if your TV could access network shares. I had that issue with my Samsung TV, but switched to streaming everything with AirVideo instead of using SneakerNet to move the files to the TV.

I guess I'm just lucky. My PS3 and TV just happen to be in the same spot where the fiber comes into my house, so my network gear and my A/V gear are right next to each other.

My PS3 and NAS are plugged into the same switch.
