I'm not sure exactly what you are saying here.

I don't think effort shouldbe taken away from car safety and put other places, but I think we should put MORE effort into the latter.

I agree. We need more rational profiling at TSA. I think they should still check your shoes though. And they'd better give Direckshun a full body cavity search.

I'm saying that there is a complete lack of evidence of proportionality in your posts. This is a minor problem with major headlines. Auto accidents, cancer, heart disease, and drug abuse are major problems with minor headlines. I'd rather spend whatever research money we're spending on major problems than on headline capturing minor problems. And given our country's financial condition, we ought to be looking for places to reduce spending not increase it.

Cancer and heart disease are things that are highly researched. Some of it is preventable, some not. Cancer is something we likely are going to have to live with. There isn't going to be a magic "pill" to irradiate cancer. This may sound a little cold or crazy, but I view cancer somewhat as natural selection. Same with some Heart Disease.

I tend to think that the way we treat things medically, have allowed "bad" genes to be continually passed along. But I also realize that there are so many more conversations that go into that, that I don't want to get into.

I would like to think that we could put some of our "wasted" funds towards further understanding mental health, as I think that could be the root of alot of problems.

Taking off our shoes at the airport during security checks as you eloquently put it is a "knee-jerk, emotional reactions to rare tragedies."

I don't think we should be forcing everyone to take off their shoes. Just people saying "Allah Akbar" and shady characters like you and Direckshun.

Where are you going to get these "wasted" funds? What are you going to cut to pay for this new spending you want to do?

So you don't think there is anywhere in the current budget that you could be better managed, or are even needed?

Cancer could be eradicated within a few decades. We certainly won't have to live with it forever. One day it will be seen in the same capacity we currently view Polio. Nanotechnology will ensure that. It will be our "Magic pill". For that and countless other scenarios that cause cellular damage.

Cancer isn't so much cellular damage, as it is the cellular "code" that leads to out of control cellular growth and/or damage.

There are leads to possibly leading to decreasing it, but as far as eradicating it, I think a few decades is premature.

I think we need to spend less, not more (and not the same amount on different things either). If we can find waste, we should be cutting it rather than spending it on issues of trivial impact.

Random mass murders committed by crazy people are a trivial problem. Have you ever heard of the deficit?
