Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

Bah just ask any woman....it's easy to go smaller. It's always harder to go bigger.

The components are sky rocketing too though. Powder and brass are already crazy.

Just because I felt like it, I bought 4 more. I have a shit load of these things and if Barry and the clowns ever outlaw them, I'll make a killing. If not, I can't lose any money.

5.45x39? Actually availability has stunk for some time unfortunately! 7.62x39 wasn't nearly so bad.

Damn I haven't looked at the magazine or gun situation lately....lol it really is like the wild wild west out there now. Twinkies...I gotta get them before they run out!

While it's not bad to be precautionary, I'm personally not terribly concerned about any regulatory issue. 1st legally odds are good it gets struck down by the supreme court but even if it doesn't the simple reality is that the law has absolutely no chance of keeping up against technology. It's like a peeWee basketball team trying to play against the LA Lakers. Technology moves light years faster than the law, try to prohibit one thing and a month later there will be a technological work around!

I went out to the farm today. My father got out his DPMS .308 18" and I took my AR-10 Nat Match.

We were hitting 550 yard shots at about a 95% rate (18-20" discs). We decided to take my Nat Match out to 1000+.

Well, we are both now in the 1000 yard club. I had to max out my scope (sighted in at 200), and aim another 17 feet above the disc. It took me 5 shots (10 mph wind) to dial in, and I drilled it. My dad hopped up to the rifle and drilled it, too.

God I feel great. 1000 mother ****ing yards!!!!!

Our "hits" are just above center. At that range a 168 grain .308 has the energy of a .45 ACP at short range.

I wish I had someplace to shoot at distance. The nearest public facility with a paltry 100 yard range is over an hour away.

Sounds like you had a blast, though. Congrats on your super sniping.

Thanks man.

It still blows me away that we had 34 1/2 feet of bullet drop at that range. The "Shooter" app on my phone absolutely nailed it.

When I shot, I had to adjust for about 6 feet of wind drift. The wind died when my dad stepped up and he just lined up the target (about 17 feet above it) and hit. Not bad for a 70 year old.

I have to admit, we had the lead sled out and shooting table. I will start to use my bipod when I get REALLY consistant.

If you ever trek through SW Kansas, let me know. It is one big shooting range out here. You could take 2 mile shots if so inclined.

If nothing else, this is the first valid reason I've ever heard for visiting Kansas.
