Top DC Candidate

As I mentioned on this site days before any media last week, the top DC candidate for the Chiefs is going to be Monte Kiffin. He would also bring Rod Marinelli as his line coach.

I've been told it's his job to turn down and they think he wants it.

I think Kiffin has evolved some and doesn't run a straight Tampa 2 anymore, but and the personnel is an interesting fit.

Dorsey would be in huge consideration to be re-signed.

Hali, Dorsey, Poe, ?

Houston, ?, DJ - I think DJ would slide into the Derrick Brooks role.

I hated the hire at first, but I'm not completely against it now. I hate the Tampa 2 defense, but I think Kiffin recognizes he can't run that solely with the offenses of today.

Will be interesting. Just thought I'd share.

It's going to take a while to accept competence from the staff and FO of this organization, should this actually prove true.

In a 4-3 under, one of your 3-4 OLBs has his hand in the dirt.

As it stands TODAY (and remember, both Dorsey and Jackson have contract situations), it would be:

Jackson - Poe - Dorsey - Hali

I always felt like we wasted Jackson and Dorsey in the first place playing a 3-4. We never found a good NT, although maybe Poe would get there. I think I have zero problem going back to the 4-3. We won't need to waste time finding a unicorn at NT and can just go after pass rushers.

Kiffin's old but at least he doesn't need help running the D. That's the concern with Reid. I'm not against hiring an inexperienced guy but if he's in over his head we're screwed. They need to hire someone Reid can just leave alone with the defense.

Bad news is, as somebody already pointed out:

It's possible this coaching staff will deem drafting Demontre Moore more important than taking the top QB

Gotcha. I still think Jackson is gone. Dorsey would be a good fit....but only if he comes back under a better contract. Are you looking for more of a run stuffer in Jackson's spot or a pass rusher?

I'm obviously not familiar with the defense.

DL would go big SDE (could Jackson play this?), 1-Tech in Poe, 3-Tech in Dorsey and then WDE in Hali. Houston would be the SLB and line up right beside the SDE similar to a 3-4 look. DJ would likely be the WLB if I were to guess and we would bring in a MLB (draft Arthur Brown? or a FA pick-up?).

Another article talking 4-3 under scheme.

http://www.battleredblog.com/2009/7/...uction-the-4-3

Basically this defense still asks a lot from Hali (WDE) and Houston (SLB)!

Kiffin is a defensive genius. If he can adapt, I'm all about it. Andy needs someone desperately who can field a defense for him. We have plenty of toys for Monte to play with. Get another DE, and we're good.

We've got to cut Tyson Jackson. He's a 3-4 end due $17 million. And it took him too ****ing long to start showing anything in the damn 3-4. He's got to go.

Based on how Jackson responded when moved inside for pass rushing makes me think he would do well as a strong side DE in the 4-3.

I don't see why Justin Houston couldn't thrive in a Von Miller type role he ran a 4.62 which is plenty fast

Nice. I could see the team making this transition. Seems like a lot would depend upon Hali's ability to beat the LT and us getting a good ILB in the draft, which we need anyway. I think with this defensive scheme a safety tandem of Eric Berry and Matt Elam would beast.

The Seahawks defensive line.

Red Bryant (6'4" 323) - Alan Branch (6'6" 325) - Brandon Mebane (6'1" 311) - Chris Clemons (6'3" 254)
