Why people laugh at Creationists

Taking a lead from Killer Clown I thought I'd create a alternative thread to post some videos I like...

[EDIT New video here]

So on with the show:

Here's the Kent Hovind Theory:

"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books.
Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders.
Do not believe in traditions simply because they have been handed down for many generations.
But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it."

Same with the materialist school of thought. Everyone suffers from some confirmation bias. Even scientist bought into the Piltdown man hoax.

That is not an applicable comparison.

I suppose you wouldn't mind if people wanted us to stop saying that the earth revolves around the sun either.
That is not evolution that is mankind being enabled to create from the Creator.

Outstanding BEP, thank you for bringing that up. The Piltdown man hoax is a great example of the scientific method in action. In 1912 the hoax was perpetrated (most likely) by Charles Dawson as presented to a meeting of the Geological Society of London. It was met with immediate criticism and sparked some debate among scientists when opened to peer review. There were certainly some scientists that were biased and it showed in their work. If I remember correctly the hoax was finally disproven about forty years later through rigorous and diligent work. The truly great thing about the Piltdown man hoax is that it shows the obvious benefit of approaching the universe with a rational questioning mind, and that simply believing in things is an incredibly foolish way to go through life. Score one for science.

Thanks for extrapolating that. I didn't feel like explaining why the comparison is not the same the way you did.

Gonna go with no.

The Piltdown Man was a hoax in which bone fragments were presented as the fossilised remains of a previously unknown early human. These fragments consisted of parts of a skull and jawbone, said to have been collected in 1912 from a gravel pit at Piltdown, East Sussex, England. The Latin name Eoanthropus dawsoni ("Dawson's dawn-man", after the collector Charles Dawson) was given to the specimen. The significance of the specimen remained the subject of controversy until it was exposed in 1953 as a forgery, consisting of the lower jawbone of an orangutan deliberately combined with the skull of a fully developed modern human.

The Piltdown hoax is perhaps the most famous paleoanthropological hoax ever to have been perpetrated. It is prominent for two reasons: the attention paid to the issue of human evolution, and the length of time (more than 40 years) that elapsed from its discovery to its full exposure as a forgery.

Well, that's not how I see the original scene, since it was not disproven right away, but as you said 40 some years later.
More like today's science can be tommorrow's fiction.

The scientific community celebrated Dawson's discovery as the long-awaited "missing link" between ape and man and the confirmation of Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. As the decades passed and new information came to light, however, it became clear that the Piltdown Man was not what he seemed.
According to this, Piltdown Man’s legitimacy didn't start to be doubted until the 1920s and ’30s.
