In my haste, I submitted the last thread before setting up a poll.

So, I want to know how many CP folks will be affected by tax increases on those earning over 250K. Your names will not be seen in the results, of course.

My question overall is this:

If you are a blue collar(or even in some cases white collar)Conservative, the chances are VERY good that you are NOT making this bank. Why in the merry blue **** would you oppose tax increases on those who have made a ****ing CAREER out of dodging taxes and sending jobs overseas?
If a businessperson sends the company to Bangladesh, why the **** should that asshole not have to pay in personal wealth loss back home, after the profit margin has been sorted out? I for one find it high time to absolutely decimate the practice of consolidation. Consolidation is when the corporation pays less taxes than the workers doing the work.

I did read that I will be paying $100 more in taxes every paycheck if there is no compromise on the fiscal cliff. So that sucks.

It is not a valid question anymore than had you asked why don't you want to steal from people that work for a living and give it to people that spend all their money on drugs? Just because another has more toys than you, does not mean they cheated. Perhaps you are just lazy or not very smart.
The quesion should be why should we take even more money from the private sector and give it to the Government when doing so will not lower the debt or help the economy? It would make more sense to remove all deductions and lower all the rates. How much time and fraud would be saved if income was just income and you just send in your 10-15%? Exempt the first 50K ish for a person and $75K ish for a family if you want to protect the poor.

The right course of action is to curb our appetite for ever-greater spending, of course. But given our current state of over-spending, it's the lower end of the income scale that isn't paying it's fair share, not the upper. Until they/we start paying for it, they/we won't have the natural incentive to slow the spending train down. I voted no, btw.

The percentage of taxpayers who make 250K who actually do the stuff you described in bold is very, very, very low.

My dad is a surgeon hoping to work 5 more years so he can retire comfortably and still do the things he wants to do. He's always paid his taxes, and doesn't ship or send jobs overseas. In fact, he was a small business owner of sorts for many years when he was in private practice. He created a handful of jobs in the community.

He makes above 250K by working his ****ing butt off. And he's paid the top rate like everyone else.

He paid his fair ****ing share. That's plenty. People like him do NOT deserve to be shit on by a higher rate.

Well, guess what? He's an evil corporatist tax evader according to all occupiers who like to paint rich(er) Americans with a broad brush.

“I” would define a family as two adults that have entered into a legal partnership with one or more dependant.

I realize others would argue with my definition. I wouldn’t really have a problem lowering the taxes further and removing the “family” part of my suggestion. I don’t really believe the Government has any business being involved in, nor do we as a society benefit from tax incentives for getting married or reproducing.

I’m sure neither of you feel/felt the need to have others define the nature of your relationship. I really don’t think most people need the Government doing that for them either.

Actually I don’t “want” it at all, I just think it would be a necessary political compromise to sell a flat tax to the public. Philosophically, I believe the less the Government is involved in our personal lives the better. Your point earlier of “define what a family is” was valid. We have politicians that can argue what the meaning of “is” , is.
