I have one from Banana Republic that I wear pretty often. I have tons of hats, though. I've always been a hat guy, and I'm even more of one since I'm pretty much bald these days.

From a shirt perspective, I would start with a few basics since you are going to need to completely revamp your wardrobe following your weight loss.

Go to J Crew or Gap and get a handful of solid long sleeve t-shirts. Go to Express and get three solid button downs; white, black, and one that matches your eye color. You can wear these with anything from jeans and casual shoes (but don't wear tennis shoes) to a suit and tie. You can start to mix in less generic styles later as money allows, but start with these basics.

For pants, go to Banana Republic and get a couple of pairs of slacks. I don't like khakis much, so I would recommend finding some of the dry clean only styles with the nice linings inside. They're going to run $100-$150, but they last forever and can periodically be found on sale for half that. (Khaki pants don't tend to age well from a construction standpoint, show dirt/stains, and really aren't as versatile as a lot of guys think, so they wind up looking like dorks because they pair them with something gray or black.) One light gray and one charcoal gray pair of dress pants will go a long way.

If you need suits, Banana Republic is good for those, too. Just don't wear your suit pants when you aren't wearing your jacket, or you will wind up having a suit that doesn't quite match over time.

I like it all other than the shirt. Not a fan of white buttons on a blue shirt, especially on the collar, and I don't care for pockets on button downs. It works under the sweater, though.

I don't like the top pocket on the cardigan, but I do like it on the shirt.

The fact that you have a pocket over a pocket = OMG! No.

Hah. I just looked down. My shirt actually has black buttons... so that must not be the exact shirt. It's not something I'd normally notice, though.

The shirt is actually kind of a light grey with some hints of blue.

Also, the cardigan isn't that EXACT one either. Mine is navy with some blue trim that matches the blue laces on my boots.

Bonobos are the bomb. I was going to recommend them for anyone that actually wants to look nice, but if frumpy is your thing this thread is great.

If you shop there google coupons, lots of 30% off one's pop right up in the first or second result. If you have Nordstrom some of those have a section of Bonobos if you'd like to try them on....

If you can't come out of Target/Ross with a pimp outfit you don't have style and paying 10-20 times as much for a sweater isn't going to change that. It's mostly about being able to match the right colors/style/proper fit, also dressing age appropriate but within current style is important. I am in my 30s so I don't wear skinny jeans and flat-hats, but I do make sure to pay attention to current trends and add pieces that aren't ridiculous.

To the guy who lives in SD who posted the atrocious old man leather boat shoes...WTF dude? You live in Southern Cali... it's Vans, Sperrys, or flip-flops for you son.

Also, REI is only fly in Colorado. That shit won't pass on the coasts. Guys from Colo crack me up, your standard issue black North Face fleece has probably gotten you laid here, but that magical power stops at the state line.
