i really dont like that people call these offenses "gimicky" the same was said to Bill Walsh and Don Coryell and now everybody runs a variant of one of their offenses. This "gimick" offense still allows for a competant attack at all levels and all portions of the field. it isnt the wildcat which couldnt throw, it isnt using a POS who cant throw like Vick. it is just a new way to use the same offensive principles that have worked since the 80's

So which is it?

Some of you have claimed for years that the only way to achieve sustained success is to draft a QB in Round 1 of the draft.

Now that a couple of 2nd and 3rd round picks - running gimmick offenses with the benefit of elite defenses - start showing the slightest bit of success, everyone flops?

If you honestly think the read option is a legitimate way to win multiple Super Bowls, then I guess you have no problem with taking Joeckel 1st overall and taking a QB in R2 or R3?

Wilson/Kaepernick have also shown they're more than comfortable standing in the pocket and making an accurate pass.

Wha? I have no idea where you're getting this.

I want the best talent at QB. Period. I have no idea whether these particular guys have the ability to sustain the success we're seeing right now. Perhaps. At the very least they're flashing rather brightly.

But I'd still rather have Ryan over Wilson. All day. Every day. But I'm not willing to disregard the system that is allowing athletic QBs to have success.

What we're probably seeing is the formula for the next dynasty. When elite talent and intangibles at the QB position meet this type of system, we'll see a monster team.

How hard is it to see they haven't flipped flopped. All the posts say the same thing, you still need a good qb who can throw. You take that when you can and if you have the first you pull the trigger. Wilson was in the top except he was 2 inches 2 short and Harbaugh new what Kaepernick could bring to the table. If Ried had inside knowledge on a 2nd or 3rd round guy then sure but I doubt he does so you take the best QB you can
