If not #1, where?

The draftniks keep saying that Geno Smith isn't worth the #1 pick.
None of them say he isn't the top QB in the class though.
If we don't take him at #1 how far is he realistically going to fall?

I see no scenario where he falls out of the Top 10.

So if he's the top QB in a weak class...
QB is our biggest need...
And he's gonna go Top 10 anyway...

Why not at #1?

Am I wrong to say he won't fall out of the Top 10?

4. Chiefs get the Cards 2nd round pick

Kolb helps groom Geno and teach him Reid's offense, etc. and Geno can start later in 2013 once the O Line is stable and everyone knows who to block, etc. in the new scheme

Go back to Reid's 1st year in Philly, he did nearly the exact same thing with a veteran QB that he had worked with at GB who helped bring the top 5 pick McNabb along ; McNabb took over mid-season his rookie year
How do you know no one from 2-6 is interested in Smith?

what i don't want to do is waste the value of the #1 pick on a QB that you could get anyway at, e.g. #7 and then have an additional 2nd round pick, etc.

what is so bad about this scenario?

trade with the Cards by swapping #1 and #7 in the 1st round where we take Geno plus we get Kolb and the Cards 2nd round pick?

Kolb can then help groom Geno and teach him Reid's offense, etc. and Geno can start later in 2013 once the O Line is stable and everyone knows who to block, etc. in the new scheme ; much better than throwing Geno in there to get his head taken off early, dash his confidence, etc.
Wait till next year!

The mantra of the Chiefs since 1985.

The value of the QB position is such that there will be at least 3 QBs taken in the top 10, and geno Smith will not be there at #7.

If the Chiefs were to trade with the Cards, the Cards will be trading up to take Smith or Wilson, and the one that isn't taken by the Cards will be taken by the Jags.

4, 5, and 6 are out

gotta do the homework on the Jags and Raiders though ; if you think one of them will pull the trigger then you don't pull the trade unless of course you have a plan B with that trade to fall back on (don't know what that would be)

Vick came in and lit it up--so much so that he was named comeback player of the year. The Eagles placed the franchise tag on him and then gave him a $100M contract. Reid likes value so he got something for Kolb including a pick and a CB--an area of need for the Eagles. Based on the numbers that Vick was putting up at the time, that is good, smart football.

If Reid really has a mancrush on Vick, as you say, then why did he bench Vick?

Vick was benched because of injury. Folks in Philly were furious that Reid hadn't benched him earlier in the season. Reid stood by Vick. FTR, Billick agreed with Reid: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap100...eagles-starter

Vick was a turnover machine. Just like Cassel.

Vick had a lot of turnovers, but he was no where close to Cassel. Vick had 11 total TDs last year and 13 total TOs while Cassel had 7 total TDs and 19 total TOs. Vick was bad; Cassel was epically bad.

None of your speculation makes any sense.

I'll happily admit I was wrong if any of this happens.

I'm fairly confident none of it will.
I don't know why you think I'm against taking Geno with the #1 pick. I've never said it. I've been on the Geno bandwagon from the start of the season. (Look at post #14 on the Geno Smith fans roll call thread.)

What I have said is that based on Reid's draft history, based on what Clark has said, based on what Reid has said, based on what Dorsey has said--I'm tempering my expectations and hopes that the Chiefs will use the #1 pick on Smith.

I fully expect AZ to trade their pick to the Chiefs and that they will use it on Smith. Believe it or not, once you get past Kolb, their QBs are actually worse than the Chiefs. Brady Freakin Quinn had better stats than Skelton or Lindley.

If (and that is a big if) the Chiefs traded out of the first pick, I would rather they get the other second round pick. I hate the thought of getting Kolb. That is my nightmare scenario.

Understand that the 'poker play' has already started(Reid + Dorsey) and specifically even with our owner. However, the 'PLAYER PIMPING' (SR. Bowl, combine, private workouts, etc....) hasn't started yet. Once this gets going and by the time draft comes around you will have several teams wanting to trade up for Joekel and Smith.

Preaching to the choir.

If you get the right guy you can't over pay or reach. The important thing isn't how much you give to get the right guy it's having the right people in place that can get him.

If some time traveler told me today that in this draft we could get a guy that would win us a SB in 2 years I'd give up 5 1st round draft picks...

Not gonna happen. The Cards are just as desperate for a QB as the Chiefs. After Kolb, their QBs are actually worse than the Chiefs.

Geno is going to go #1. Whether or not the Chiefs still have the #1 pick is the question.

If you know anything about Reid at all you'd peg him to draft a QB with this pick and you'd peg Geno as the most likely QB he'd take.

Just think back to when McNabb was taken and roundly booed loudly by the Philly fans...

I cannot see the jags or the raiders passing up a quarterback or Geno smith, which is what we also are in need of right now. Just take the best quarterback at the number one spot and don't trade down. I'm afraid if we trade down that the two best quarterback will be off the board before we can take one.
