Obama’s 23 Planned Executive Actions On Guns

Here is a list provided by the White House of the 23 executive actions President Obama plans to take to reduce gun violence in the wake of the Newtown, Conn., massacre:

1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.
2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.
3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.
4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.
5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.
6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.
7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.
8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).
9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.
10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.
11. Nominate an ATF director.
12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.
13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.
14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.
15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.
16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.
17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.
18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.
19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.
20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.
21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.
22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.
23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.

Fourth, the NRA is using your fear and paranoia to increase its own membership, as well as increase the sales of firearms. And they are very good at it. This happens after every shooting. Just read the FBI crime stats for murders with "Rifles" There were 323 of them. Way more people were Clubbed or beaten to death than shot with rifles. So just who the fug is doing the fear mongering?

Also, care to point me towards anything on the Federal level, that any of those people you mention has done or have said, that would end the second amendment? I haven't heard anything about repealing it. I'm sure that for such hyperbolic statements such as "dedicated gun-haters" and "bathing itself in blood", there would be ample amounts of evidence that Obama wants to repeal the second amendment.

To most rational Americans, 20 dead kids isn't a "isolated incident" and your attempts to downplay the reality of what happened are disturbing.

We regulate the First amendment, you can't yell "fire" in a theater, you can't slander, we have free speech zones.

We regulate the fourth amendment. DUI checkpoints, the BS with TSA, the War on Drugs, and on and on.

Regulating the second amendment to stay current with the technology and ability of new guns does not equal taking away your guns. And as a gun owner myself, I think you guys are doing more damage than good by freaking out over common sense ideas.

I'd say out of those three the only one that could possibly have made a difference was #12, if 'school resource officers' are armed.

And if that's what a school resource officer is I'm glad they paid attention to the NRA. Gotta give Biden credit for that.

That's what I was hoping. Those three could easily fit into what the NRA was talking about. That situation is exactly what we have at the school my children attend. We have two armed truant officers constantly on campus. We have at least one police officer constantly on campus, with his marked police car very visibly parked at the main entrance, on patrol from before the first kid arrives to well after the last kid leaves. We have multiple (no one but them really knows how many) armed teachers/coaches in the classrooms and gyms. They have CCW permits and carry while teaching and coaching.

One other thing, a cop in a school would just be the first to get shoot. I think it should be something similar to how we guard Air planes, select few highly trained individuals undercover in the school.
