Aside from European men's fashion, I can't think of a bigger waste of money.

You really think the NRA wouldn't burn down the HQ accidentally rather than give up the membership rolls, even if compelled to do so? Hell I live deep behind enemy lines, I'm an endowment member and my mailing address is listed at NRA HQ as in deliverable so I don't get flyers in the mail(ie I'd rather not have my neighbors know). But I get everything through email instead. Sign up at a friends address if you want.

If you want to donate money give to the NRA-ILA that's the lobbying arm.

The NRA's stance is that if you are A-rated or better, they will not support an opponent, regardless of party. If both candidates are A-rated, they will support the incumbent. You can vote the "wrong way" on a few things and still be A-rated, as long as its not an enormous vote like a gun ban.

A lot of Republicans were outraged at the NRA for refusing to help defeat Harry Reid since he was A-rated, and that election was so close, that just a little effort from the NRA may have scared enough people to elect Angle. That policy is going to pay off now, because Reid and several other A-rated Dems in the senate who have seen their non-partisan loyalty rewarded, are going to put a stop to this nonsense.

If an incumbent has an A, they will receive support, but even more than that, if an incumbent is B-rated, the NRA will not actively oppose them, even if the challenger is an A.

Reid was B-rated in 2010, Sharron Angle was A-rated. The NRA decided to endorse neither candidate, and stayed out of the race.

People need to remember the NRA is about more than just fighting for our rights as gun owners.

They also educate new and old shooters. They sponsor competitive events to promote camraderie and sportsmanship. (See Camp Perry) They promote safe and responsible gun ownership much to the dismay and chagrin of the liberal elitists.

You don't necessarily have to Join the NRA but if you are a gun owner and enjoy the freedoms of firearm ownership then you should at the minimum join a regional entity. Personally I am a member of the California Rifle and Pistol Assoc. as well as a Lifetime Member of the NRA

According to the Center for Responsive Politics, the N.R.A. spent almost $19 million in the last federal election cycle. Supporting a local Boy Scout troop would accomplish the same goals, without the added baggage of shooting range app games for 4 year olds.
