Is the battle for gay rights a civil rights battle?

From Obama's inaugural speech.

"We, the people, declare today that the most evident of truths — that all of us are created equal — is the star that guides us still; just as it guided our forebears through Seneca Falls, and Selma, and Stonewall ... Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law — for if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well."

Today Obama placed an original place for the battle for gay civil rights, Stonewall along side the same original battleground's for women's rights(Seneca Falls) and African-American rights(Selma).

So the poll question is............

Is the battle for gay rights a civil rights battle?

Here is the problem. That is not an issue stemming from the parents. That's a societal issue due to parents of the other kids. Those parents of the other kids are the ones failing, not the gay couple. Whether the kid is teasing another because of gay parents or being a "nerd" its the other parents failing.

Also, a child with a strong support system at home in the form of gay parents has a MUCH better chance at getting through the tough times that come during childhood and adolescence than a child that comes from a broken home or even a home with emotionally distant or inattentive parents.

It's an example for crying out loud. You like to pose questions as if you are privy to knowledge that no one else is aware of so that you can say "look the whole argument had no ground to stand on!" It is a stupid question that suggests I am implying there are no bad gay parents. But I am sure you are thinking "oh I got this one!" By your idiotic logic I am also suggesting there are no good straight parents.

If you switched the good parents to heterosexuals and bad parents to gay parents the example would still be the same result for the child because it's true. A loving home, regardless of the parents sexual orientation is better than a broken or inattentive home. That is what the example I gave says and it really isn't all that hard to figure out. I use it to illustrate a point and stop any potential idiots from saying a home is bad because of the parents sexuality instead of it being bad because of poor parenting skills.
